I recently had a question from someone who is a cyclist. They have low back pain and very tight hip flexors, what could they do about it?
One of the challenges that come with biking is doing a repetitive motion over and over. You’re working certain muscles more than others. Anytime you have a muscle on the body that is stronger than the opposing muscle, it can create an imbalance.
In this situation, you have a problem with an overdeveloped:
• Rectus Femoris
• Iliopsoas
What causes lower back pain? If these muscles are overdeveloped, it will keep you in a flexed state. You will lose the symmetry between the muscles on the front of the body, and the muscles on the back.
How to fix cycling back pain:
• Stretch
• Do yoga
• Strengthen the opposing muscle (glutes, hamstrings)
