New To Keto But Want To Grow Your Knowledge?

More specifically, you want help with I tried the Carnivore Diet for a Month… Unbiased Review?

I went carnivore for a month yeah ain’t nothing but meat for basically a month I did it all out of the world of self-experimentation I wanted to see what it would feel like I was already ketogenic but what would it feel like if I shifted to an all meat diet you know what would happen well before I go into a lot of detail there I have to explain why I did this and what the science behind the carnivore diet and all meat or zero carb diet really says but first you’re tuned in the internet’s leading performance nutrition and fat loss channel you loads of self-experimentation type videos loads of research back videos and just all kinds of things that help you out a new videos on Tuesday Friday and Sunday also make sure you hit that subscribe button then hit that little bell icon to turn on notifications alright so first off the carnivore diet in general is not about just eating as much meat as you possibly can okay it’s not about that at all it’s more about an autoimmune response and if you’ve watched my other videos talking about my carnivore challenge and talking about when I did this then this is stuff you’ve already heard but the fact is is that the Carnmore diet is more about the immune system ok the less things that you eat the easier it is to laser focus what works and what doesn’t now obviously there’s things called autoimmune paleo there’s restricted diets that remove foods and then introduce them but those can be pretty complicated so if you go down to just the basics of it then the carnivore diet is very simple ok you don’t have a lot of different things coming into the mix so you don’t have different things that can stir up a response within your body so generally people that go carnivore do feel pretty good simply because their immune system isn’t going to be on hyperdrive trying to identify all kinds of foods but the questions you do have to ask yourself are things like well don’t I need that little bit of exposure to those other foods now and then to heighten my immune system to be aware of those these are all things that are a little bit nebulous and we can’t fully answer the only thing that I can honestly talk about is my own personal experience and what I learned by going carnivore I’ll be honest when I first started carnivore I didn’t think I was going to like it very much I knew that it had some benefits but I wanted to do it for the sake of my audience and for the sake of my own just experience so how I started the carnivore diet was probably a little bit wrong you see I have a ketogenic background general I’ve been doing keto on and off for close to 10 years I know it through and through and I wanted to apply some of my ketogenic principles over to carnivore so when I first started carnivore I had suggested that people follow along with me in my style which means I was gonna eat relatively lean proteins and add my fats through polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats in exogenous waves you know I was gonna be an avocado oil I was gonna use olive oil and I see these things like that and the reality is although that is a great way to live sort of a Mediterranean keto lifestyle it may not have been the best choice when I was first starting out on carnivore because the first three or four days I did not feel good actually first two or three days I did not feel good at all I felt constipated and then I had diarrhea and it’s just off and on it just did not feel right I felt bloated I felt like I was holding tons and tons of water and I think it was just because my body was reacting in a really stark way just didn’t know what to do so I was adding fats in through other sources and I think what was going on was there’s sort of a biological disconnect between the lean meats that I was eating and the polyunsaturated monounsaturated fats that I was getting in by default since I wasn’t really eating red meat at that point in time I wasn’t getting a lot of the saturated fats so I started making a conclusion in my mind at that point in time I noticed by phase three and four I was having a really hard time working out I felt like I was disconnected from my body I felt like my brain wasn’t able to send a signal to my arms my legs and I was like about to throw in the towel and just say guys I feel like garbage and my theory although it could be completely wrong was that maybe the lack of saturated fats that I was getting was starting to have an effect on my nervous system because it does have a big role in the myelination now myelination is the myelin sheath that covers the outside of the nerve okay now this makes it so that a signal can be sent from the brain to a specific area now the problem with my hypothesis here is that I would imagine it takes longer than four days to run into some kind of deficiency or to run an out of saturated fat right like that just doesn’t make sense I’ve done longer fasts than five days before it I didn’t have this problem so I don’t know what it was perhaps it was some kind of sodium imbalance or mineral imbalance see I’m used to going keto I’m used to going keto where I’m going to deplete a lot of minerals because it naturally happens but during carnivore you’re so close to a zero carb diet and actually let me clear something up for a second carnivore has only been coddled called carnivore recently we used to hear it as a zero carb diet before and honestly I think that was a lot less aggressive carnivore kind of scares people off when in reality zero carb is what it is maybe it sounds less daunting for people anyway I digress so the point was is that perhaps I was really just completely mineral deficient I wasn’t adding the salt that I should be adding in and I wasn’t getting the minerals that I should have been adding him so anyway what happened is after day four I realized okay I’m gonna go ahead and I’m gonna start having more in the way of some red meat which I normally don’t do because I don’t digest it really well I’ve never had a big ability to digest red meat very well just kind of sits in my stomach so I made a concerted effort to add more red meat in and it made a very big difference in my overall energy levels so perhaps it was an iron thing perhaps it was a zinc thing I don’t know but upon adding red meat into the mix my strength started to come back and my muscles started to fill out now one thing that I’ve always been big on is keeping meats relatively lean and adding fats through other sources and I realized once I was a little bit deeper in the carnivore that maybe I couldn’t live that way on this particular diet maybe in carnivore I had to add more saturated fats and I had to add fattier cuts of meat and believe it or not that strategy worked that strategy usually makes me feel less good on keto but it made me feel better when I was on carnivore now my theory behind this could also be I was eating really high quality grass-fed grass-finished meat okay so I could have been actually getting minerals I could have actually been getting vitamins and nutrients in fat soluble vitamins coming through the higher quality of fat that I was getting so I do talk about that all the time either going to consume higher fat cuts of meat in my opinion and according to a lot of research it’s pretty not important to get grass-fed grass-finished I didn’t want to load up on a bunch of corn and a bunch of soy and mess up my inflammatory markers and get my cytokines all out of whack so I found that if I did go with higher quality meat and I ate high fat content meat that I felt better my muscles filled out my skin tone improved and I was able to survive a little bit more with it it took a little while for the gut biome to kind of reset I feel like I was digestive ly disturbed for a good week okay so the second week I decided to implement some fasting into the mix yeah I it was hard for me to not have fasting in the equation anyway I’m an avid faster and I usually fast a few days per week so I did two 24-hour fast during that week what I found is that those fasts kick-started me into something now studies have shown that when people go on some form of a carnivore type diet they’re bacteria actually does improve to some degree so you see they have less instances of what it’s called firma cutest bacteria Firmicutes bacteria is usually involved in a lot of plant digestion but firm Iquitos bacteria is also linked with obesity in a lot of cases people that are obese tend to have higher levels of firm acutest bacteria it doesn’t mean that having a little bit is bad but this was my theory once I actually had a chance to do some fasting my gut mucosal layer was able to kind of regenerate I was able to get that gut motility back and everything’s sort of reset and when I reintroduce the meat after a fast everything just kind of clicked and that makes sense it backs up again with what the science says about the increase in the Bacteroides and the decrease in the firm acutest bacteria chains so that felt a lot better and then of course my energy improved but one thing that I definitely noticed overall was heightened mental clarity even though I felt a little bit digestive Lee disturbed at times mentally I felt pretty darn good I felt like I was able to get by with a little bit more food and not feel as mentally foggy as I would normally get if I ate a larger meal now part of this could have been in part to the fact that I was consuming higher fat cuts of meat that I normally wasn’t used to and my fat content ultimately was probably higher than it is on a normal ketogenic diet for me when things really started to make a turn was around week three when I did add organ meats in I wasn’t anti working meat before I just honestly I was learning as I was going and I was reading the viewer comments I was reading what people were saying they were saying you gotta try organ meats I think you’ll feel better so I added some organ meats and I added mainly just liver and when I added liver and that made all the difference in the world it really did energy level was so much better cognitive function was even more clear and the fact is I found that yes this was definitely a way for me to reset cravings had completely changed and it was something that if I felt was truly sustainable I would stick to the fact of the matter is I like my veggies okay this is not saying that carnivore is bad carnivore works great for so many people and Shawn Baker is an some guy Jordan Peterson awesome okay ken berry I know he’s experiment with it awesome and super close friend of mine I have no hatred towards these guys for doing carnivore whatsoever in fact I have a lot more respect now for people that do carnivore because it truly is to some degree a sacrifice but also it really is just it’s another level you do feel great and do I disagree with some things regarding oxalates and veggies yes but I’ve seen a couple things that say you know a true carnivore diet is carnivore with the occasional veggie or carnivore is meat with the occasional berries and I agree with that a little bit more because at least you’re getting something to satisfy sort of that emotional peace I’ve been doing keto for a long time I know keto inside and out I know exactly what fats do what I know exactly what fats will raise what ketones I know exactly how the body works with ketosis as much as probably the next guy at least but carnivore was new to me and carnivore is something that is now gonna be in my toolbox to reset my body and reset my immune system it’s catapulted me into a new phase where I feel like my ketogenic protocols work better on me now maybe it reset my gut biome maybe it made some changes there I’m not sure but the three tips that I would give anyone that’s doing carnivore would be one get the organ meats in it makes all the difference in the world okay two is gonna be try to go for the fattier cuts of meat but go for grass-fed grass-finished there’s a link by the way down below for butcher box if you guys do want to check them out so grass-fed grass-finished meat delivered to your doorstep so get a special discount if you get it through my link down below okay and then the third tip is definitely going to be add salt okay same kind of thing I’ll talk about with keto and fasting and the fourth random tip I’ll give you is when they say eat tail the snout you don’t have to eat the Rocky Mountain Oysters alright as always keep it locked in here in my channel I’ll see you in the next video

I tried the Carnivore Diet for a Month… Unbiased Review – Thomas DeLauer

I went carnivore for a month. Yeah, I ate nothing but meat for basically a month, and I did it all out of the world of self-experimentation. I wanted to see what it would feel like. I was already ketogenic, but what would it feel like if I shifted to an all meat diet? What would happen? Well before I go into a lot of detail there I have to explain why I did this, and what the science behind the carnivore diet and all meat or zero carb diet really says.

How I started the carnivore diet was probably a little bit wrong. You see, I have a ketogenic background in general. I’ve been doing keto on and off for close to 10 years, so I know it through and through, and I wanted to apply some of my ketogenic principles over to carnivore. So when I first started carnivore, I had suggested that people follow along with me and my style, which means I was going to eat relatively lean proteins and add my fats through polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats in exogenous ways. I was going to get avocado oil. I was going to use olive oil, and I was going to use things like that. The reality is, although that is a great way to live sort of a Mediterranean keto lifestyle, it may not have been the best choice when I was first starting out on carnivore, because the first three or four days I did not feel good. Actually, the first two or three days I did not feel good at all. I felt constipated, and then I had diarrhea, and it was just off and on. It just did not feel right.

I felt bloated. I felt like I was holding tons and tons of water, and I think it was just because my body was reacting in a really stark way. It just didn’t know what to do. So I was adding fats in through other sources, and I think what was going on was there was sort of a biological disconnect between the lean meats that I was eating, and the polyunsaturated, monounsaturated fats that I was getting in. By default, since I wasn’t really eating red meat at that point in time, I wasn’t getting a lot of the saturated fats, so I started making a conclusion in my mind at that point in time. I noticed by days three and four I was having a really hard time working out. I felt like I was disconnected from my body. I felt like my brain wasn’t able to send a signal to my arms and my legs, and I was about to throw in the towel and just say, “Guys, I feel like garbage.”

My theory, although it could be completely wrong, was that maybe the lack of saturated fats that I was getting was starting to have an effect on my nervous system, because it does have a big role in the myelination. Now myelination is the myelin sheath that covers the outside of the nerve. This makes it so that a signal can be sent from the brain to a specific area. Now the problem with my hypothesis here is that I would imagine it takes longer than four days to run into some kind of deficiency or to run out of saturated fat, right? That just doesn’t make sense. I’ve done longer fasts than five days before, and I didn’t have this problem. So I don’t know what it was. Perhaps it was some kind of sodium imbalance or mineral imbalance.

When things really started to make a turn was around week three when I did add organ meats in. I wasn’t anti-organ meat before. I just honestly, I was learning as I was going, and I was reading the viewer comments. I was reading what people were saying, and they were saying, “You ought to try organ meats. I think you’ll feel better.” So I added some organ meats in. I added mainly just liver, and when I added liver in, that made all the difference in the world. It really did. Energy level was so much better. Cognitive function was even more clear, and the fact is I found that, yes, this was definitely a way for me to reset.

Cravings had completely changed, and it was something that if I felt was truly sustainable, I would stick to. The fact of the matter is I like my veggies. Okay? This is not saying that carnivore is bad. Carnivore works great for so many people, and Shawn Baker is an awesome guy. Jordan Peterson, awesome. Ken Berry… I know he’s experimenting with it. Awesome and super close friend of mine. I have no hatred towards these guys for doing carnivore whatsoever. In fact, I have a lot more respect now for people that do carnivore because it truly is, to some degree a sacrifice, but also it really is just… It’s another level. You do feel great.

Carnivore was new to me, and carnivore is something that is now going to be in my toolbox to reset my body and reset my immune system. It’s catapulted me into a new phase where I feel like my ketogenic protocols work better on me now.

All right, as always, keep it locked in here on my channel. I’ll see you in the next video.
