today I’m going to show you a great alternative to making french fries french fries are typically loaded with fat and carbs as everyone knows but even if you make them at home they can still be pretty carb heavy potatoes have a great micronutrient profile as they offer us tons of vitamins and minerals but a really great low-calorie alternative to a potato is a jicama or a Mexican potato so we’re going to be using these to make our low-calorie french fries so the great thing about yacuma is actually half the calories and carbs of a typical potato its micronutrient profile is decent to giving you 40 percent of your recommended daily vitamin C allowance with one cup another benefit of Yakama is its high fiber content in 120 grams you’ll get 4 grams of fiber now let’s time to peel our yacuma as you can see here I’ve already peeled this Yakima the skin of the jicama is really tough so you could use any peeler like I have here but I think the best way to go is just to use a knife so we’re going to take our serrated knife and cut french fry shapes out of our yacuma before we do that though I just want to give you a quick tip make sure that you throw away the skin of your yacumo don’t put it down your drain you might clog your drain so as you guys can see here our Yakima fries are really starting to take shape on this last batch the top now it’s time to grease up our pan we’re just going to spray with some nonstick cooking spray if you want you can cover them with olive oil that’s fine i recommend maybe just like a tablespoon and then I’m going to crush some salt and pepper over the top of them so we’re going to cook these on 400 for about 20 to 25 minutes or maybe a little bit longer depending on how crispy you guys like him thanks for watching the video guys I hope you enjoyed it these french fries are going to run you at least half the calories less than homemade french fries would they’re not as crunchy as a normal french fry but they definitely are just as delicious I’m going to go clean up this mess if you liked the video please thumbs up it comment or share I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments below if you make these Thanks
