In this video, we’re going to talk about what to do when cutting your carbs doesn’t help you lose weight.

When you hit a plateau, I typically say you need to cut your carbs down and eat less frequently. But what do you do if that doesn’t work?

There are two situations that may cause you to stop losing weight even when you’re fasting and lowering your carbs. The first situation is when you’re not getting enough sleep, and the second is when you’re stressed out.

Not getting the right amount of quality sleep can stop weight loss because of a hormone called melatonin. Sleep produces melatonin, and melatonin inhibits insulin. So if you’re not getting enough sleep, you won’t have enough melatonin to keep your insulin levels under control.

High insulin causes your body to store sugar as fat. This is obviously not good for losing weight.

Exposure to blue light before bed and late-night snacking can lead to poor sleep.

Stress affects weight loss because of the hormone cortisol. Cortisol, also known as the stress hormone, releases glucose as a source of quick energy. In turn, this releases sugar into the body and causes high insulin.

In this video, we’re going to talk about constipation and fiber.

Constipation is not just a symptom of a lack of fiber. Constipation is the result of incomplete digestion anywhere in the digestion tract.

This could be due to a lack of:
• Stomach acid – Which breaks down protein
• Bile – Which breaks down fats
• Enzymes – Which breaks down all nutrients
• Gut microbes – Which breaks down fiber and other nutrients

If you have constipation, it could be that you need more stomach acidity, bile, enzymes, or probiotics.

16% of Americans have constipation, and 30% of adults over 60 have constipation.

It’s important to look at the entire digestive process if you have constipation. The answer usually isn’t as simple as adding more fiber. You have to look at your digestion as a whole.

In this video, we’re going to talk about adrenal fatigue and liver problems.

If you have adrenal fatigue and you’ve been working on your adrenals for a while with no results, it could be a sign of something else—your liver. The adrenal glands aren’t the only way that your body produces cortisol.

Your liver can actually produce cortisol—and so can your immune cells, gonads, and central nervous system.

The more your liver is damaged, the fewer adrenal hormones you’re going to have available.

Symptoms of adrenal fatigue include:
• Low tolerance to stress
• Poor immune function
• Fatigue
• Sleeplessness or insomnia

The liver has a protein called cortisol-binding globulin (or transcortin). 75% of the cortisol in your body is locked up in this. The more liver damage, the less cortisol you will have.

When you have less cortisol, the more symptoms you will experience, including:
• Allergies
• Inflammation
• Pain
• Asthma

In turn, some will be put on prednisone, which is a synthetic form of cortisol. However, this can make matters worse since the side effects of this can contribute to:
• Fatty liver
• High glucose
• Diabetes
• High blood pressure
• Increased belly fat

In summary, if you’ve been working on your adrenals with no results, make sure you consider the health of your liver and address any problems there first. Healthy keto and intermittent fasting are some of the best things you can do to support a healthy liver.

Today we’re going to talk about why some people snack when stressed. The hormone that’s triggered by stress is cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone that has a function of regulating blood sugar to a certain degree.

If a person has low blood sugar, cortisol is released and helps the body turn protein, fat, or ketones into sugar. This is called gluconeogenesis. The body is making sugar out of non-carbohydrate sources.

Stress raises cortisol. Cortisol releases sugar, and there is a spike in blood sugar. Insulin kicks in and pushes the blood sugar down, causing low blood sugar. Now, the person will get hungry, crave carbs, and snack. When they snack, they’ll raise the blood sugar, and the whole cycle will start over.

Two things that can trigger cortisol:
1. Stress
2. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

Not only can stress cause you to crave sugar, but it can also lower willpower.

A few tips to overcome the habit of snacking when stressed:
1. Never ask yourself what you’re in the mood to eat
2. Ignore the body when it demands refined carbs and sugar
3. Stick to consuming low carb foods
4. Take vitamin B1 (nutritional yeast)
5. Take MCT oil or tallow capsules

Today we’re going to talk about depression and the HPA axis.

H – Hypothalamus

A – Adrenals

There is a feedback loop of communication between the hypothalamus, pituitary, and the adrenals. This communication turns certain hormones on and off. If cortisol (a stress hormone) is constantly stimulated and turned on by chronic stress, it could lead to burnout.

Cortisol can affect the hippocampus in the brain, which involves memory and learning. High levels of cortisol over time can potentially shrink the hippocampus affecting your memory.

If the sympathetic nervous system and the fight or flight mechanism are overstimulated over time, it can cause someone to experience anxiety and then depression. On the flip side, if the parasympathetic nervous system is dysregulated, it can cause someone to develop depression.

Potential remedies for depression from chronic stress:
1. Reduce stress
2. Magnesium
3. Fasting (combine this with ketones)
4. Aerobic exercise
5. Vitamin D
6. Rhodiola
7. Get plenty of sleep

Is it possible that when you start the keto plan or intermittent fasting, you will spike your adrenal hormones and create more stress in the body? The answer is no.

Some people believe that it appears to be stressful on the body because you’re starving the body of glucose. But, a person has fat on their body to be used as fuel. I believe it’s logical that our bodies are meant to run off of fat between meals.

Cortisol is a stress hormone. Cortisol is also called glucocorticoid. One of the big functions of cortisol is to keep your blood sugars from getting too low. It will release stored glucose or cause the production of glucose to maintain the blood sugars. This isn’t a stress event. It’s a normal thing that occurs in the body.

It takes about three days for the body to start adapting from burning glucose to burning fat. Cortisol can rise a little bit when a person goes through the three-day keto-adaptation phase, but then it levels out.

When you run your body on glucose, it is very stressful for the body, and you can’t tap into your own fat. But, when you get into ketosis, you could go from a stress state to a much higher level of calmness and state of well-being. Burning fat or being in ketosis is a non-stressful state.

Keep in mind, when you start keto and fasting, it’s important to take electrolytes and B vitamins.

Do you feel fatigued, unmotivated, and maybe depressed? Check out these causes of lethargy and what you could do about it.

Today, I’m going to cover nine causes of lethargy. Lethargy is like fatigue with a twist. Lethargy is fatigue along with decreased activity, apathy, depression, a lack of motivation, and a lack of creativity.

9 potential causes of lethargy:
1. Sustained stress
2. Overtraining
3. Lack of sleep
4. Studying technical subjects without looking up words you don’t understand
5. Excessive stimulants
6. Hidden infection
7. EMFs
8. Old injuries
9. Nutritional deficiencies

To help pinpoint which one of these potential causes are causing you to feel lethargic, you need to locate where the lethargy is located. Is it in your head, your sinuses, your neck, or maybe your chest? For example, let’s say the lethargy is in your head. An old injury or trauma to the head could actually cause you to feel lethargic years later.

You would also want to think about when you started feeling lethargic and what you did just before it started. This could give you a clue as to what triggered it.

You may also want to test out one theory at a time to see if it helps. For example, if you think the cause might be overtraining, then stop exercising for a week and see if the lethargy goes away. For a hidden infection, you may want to try oregano oil and garlic to help boost your immune system.

In this video, we’re going to talk about 9 ways to boost your stress tolerance. If you’re someone who regularly gets flustered when driving behind a slow driver, or if you regularly feel stress at work, this video is for you.

Take a look at these 9 ways to increase your stress tolerance.

1. Increase your sleep – If you aren’t getting enough sleep at night, you’re not going to be able to be patient and stress-free throughout the day. Avoid blue light before bed and get 7-8 hours of quality sleep.

2. Get plenty of vitamin B1 – Vitamin B1 directly affects your tolerance to stress. Get vitamin B1 from a natural source, like nutritional yeast.

3. Lower your carbohydrates – A high-carb diet will cause significant blood sugar and insulin fluctuations, which can cause significant irritability and boost your stress.

4. Avoid the news – The news can be overwhelmingly negative, and it can add unnecessary fear and stress to your life.

5. Exercise – Exercise increases the oxygen in your blood and lowers your stress naturally. Long walks are especially good for lowering your stress levels.

6. Magnesium – This mineral is great for lowering your stress levels. 7 cups of vegetables and a bottle of mineral water a day will give you plenty of magnesium.

7. Vitamin D – Get plenty of sunlight or supplement vitamin D. Vitamin D helps reduce stress and anxiety as well as support healthy sleep.

8. Ketones – Ketones elevate your mood and promote healthy stress levels. Get on keto and intermittent fasting.

9. Change your environment – Get outside and enjoy nature. This can really help slow down your pace and get rid of stress.
