In this video, we’re going to talk about what to do if you can’t get your ketones high enough.

If you’re running into a situation where you only see trace amounts of ketones, this video is for you.

Here are five things you need to know when increasing your ketone levels.

1. It takes time – If you just started on keto, you will need to give it some time before you fully switch over to ketosis. Your mitochondria do not fully adapt to ketosis right away. It can take around one month to become fully keto-adapted.

2. Use the right test – Testing your ketones can be a great way to figure out where you’re at in your keto-adaptation. At first, you can use urine ketone tests. However, as your body adapts to ketosis, it will naturally become more efficient at burning ketones, leaving you with little to no ketones in your urine. At this point, you want to use a blood ketone test.

3. Keep your protein intake in check – Having more than 8 oz of protein per meal may spike your insulin levels high enough to slow down ketosis. Make sure you increase your fat to protein ratio and have around 3-6 oz of protein per meal. Sausage, olives, olive oil, fatty fish, fatty cheese, pecans, macadamia nuts, butter, cod liver oil, stew, and sardines are great foods for increasing your fat to protein ratio.

4. Stress – High stress levels can have similar effects as sugar. Stress can trigger cortisol and lower your ketones.

5. Lack of sleep – Not getting enough high-quality sleep can throw off your blood sugar levels and limit your ability to get into ketosis.

Could teeth grinding be related to a vitamin deficiency? Yes! Grinding your teeth at night could potentially be because of a vitamin D deficiency.

There are many different sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, insomnia, and foot cramps at night, that are related to low levels of vitamin D.

Other vitamin deficiencies that could potentially lead to teeth grinding at night are calcium and magnesium. If you take calcium, make sure you don’t take too much. If you take too much calcium, you could develop the same symptoms as a calcium deficiency. You may want to just take a small amount of calcium or get the calcium you need from food.

A vitamin D deficiency has also been associated with anxiety. If you have a vitamin D deficiency and you’re trying to sleep at night, the anxiety alone may cause you to grind your teeth.

A good way to find out if a vitamin D deficiency could be the cause of your teeth grinding is to take about 10,000 IUs of vitamin D3 at dinner time. You could also have a small amount of cheese with your dinner to provide calcium. Then, see if you notice any improvements with grinding your teeth.

There are many therapeutic benefits of going to the beach that relate to lowering your cortisol levels.

Cortisol is a stress hormone that can cause problems in the body if you have too much of it.

Let’s talk about the benefits of going to the beach.

1. Vitamin D – Sun exposure at the beach can increase your vitamin D levels. In turn, this can help lower your cortisol. Sunlight and vitamin D are also important for normalizing your circadian rhythm, which can naturally support healthy sleep and cortisol levels.

2. Seawater – Saltwater is rich in magnesium, sodium, potassium, and selenium. These can help with asthma, bronchitis, arthritis, aches, and pains. Saltwater is also very relaxing, which can help reduce stress and lower your levels of cortisol.

3. Sound (waves) – The sound of waves at the beach can be very relaxing for your body. In turn, this stimulates the parasympathetic system and promotes normal cortisol levels.

4. Breeze – The sea breeze can pick up the negative ions from crashing waves. Negative ions help increase oxygen in the body and potentially decrease your risk of depression.

5. Color – Blue skies and aqua-blue waters help many people feel relaxed and at peace.

Today we’re going to talk about the interesting relationship between cortisol (stress) and vitamin D. Is it vitamin D that causes low cortisol, or is it the cortisol (either too high or too low) that causes a vitamin D deficiency?

Vitamin D is required for adrenal hormone production. Not just cortisol, but other adrenal hormones as well. If a person is deficient in vitamin D, then they could also be deficient in certain adrenal hormones. This could set them up for all sorts of problems.

Potential health problems caused by stress:
• Ulcers
• Diabetes
• Increased risk of cancer
• Autoimmune diseases
• Heart conditions
• Infections
• Insomnia
• Sleep apnea
• Anxiety or depression
• Weight gain

Both vitamin D and cortisol are anti-inflammatories. High cortisol (Cushing’s syndrome) and low cortisol (Addison’s disease) are both related to a vitamin D deficiency.

Cortisol normally suppresses the white blood cells, and vitamin D modulates the immune system—it helps control it. Both vitamin D and cortisol can also potentially help prevent autoimmune diseases.

Another thing to note is that the raw material to make vitamin D and cortisol comes from the same thing: cholesterol.

If a person has any condition that involves cortisol, they may want to take vitamin D to potentially help normalize their cortisol.

Causes of a vitamin D deficiency:
• Lack of vitamin D in the diet
• Lack of sun
• Age
• Skin color
• Obesity
• Metabolic syndrome
• Inflammation
• Infection
• Malabsorption
• Polymorphism
• Stress

The more stress you go through, the more you could be deficient in vitamin D. Overall, in my opinion, stress can cause a vitamin D deficiency, and a vitamin D deficiency can make you more stressed, causing a cortisol problem.

Today I’m going to cover seven things that can help pull you out of depression. There is an interesting link between BDNF and depression. They found that there is no way to diagnose depression. But, they also found that people who are depressed have low levels of BDNF.

So, I want to talk about how to enhance BDNF. All of the trials delivering BDNF into the central nervous system have failed. So, how can we enhance it naturally?

BDNF is basically a fertilizer for the brain. It helps with nerve growth, nerve differentiation, and the maintenance of the synapse between the nerves.

Benefits of BDNF:
• It can help improve learning
• It can help improve long-term memory
• It helps higher thinking

Let’s talk about how stress can potentially turn your hair grey. Of course, other things can cause grey hair, like the normal aging process and genetic factors. But, there are epigenetic factors, which are above your genes, and you may be able to do something about your genes through your nutrition, environment, and more. But what about premature greying because you’re going through too much stress?

In the hair follicle, you have stem cells, which create pigment. When exposed to chronic stress, you get an elevation of noradrenaline. Noradrenaline is the precursor of adrenaline.

They found that noradrenaline causes stem cells to migrate away from the hair root and into the skin. So, you lose your stem cells and, with them, the ability to keep your hair pigmented. The key is to keep your stress low.

How to keep your stress low:
• Sleep more
• Exercise more
• Take vitamin B1 regularly (nutritional yeast)
• Identify the cause of the stress and do something about it

In this short video, I want to talk about the relationship between your mid-back and your stress level.

The sympathetic nervous system is the fight or flight mechanism in the body, and when it’s activated, you go through stress. The sympathetic nervous system is located in your mid-back.

If you have stiffness or pain in your mid-back, it’s going to keep you in stress mode. If you’re in stress mode, this could keep your back stiff and in pain. Eating the wrong foods can also cause your digestive system to spasm, leading to back pain, which can keep you in stress mode.

Today I’m going to share the best way to tell if you have high cortisol. Cortisol is the main stress hormone. If cortisol is too high, it can lead to a lot of different health problems. 

High cortisol can potentially lead to issues, such as:
• Belly fat 
• High blood pressure 
• Allergies
• Asthma 
• Acne 
• Anxiety 
• Low tolerance to stress
• Inflammation 
• Blood sugar problems 
• Cravings for carbs 
• Decreased libido 
• Decreased potassium 
• Alkalosis 

The #1 sign of high cortisol is if you wake up at about 2:00 am – 2:30 am every night. The pattern for high cortisol is waking up at about 2:00 am – 2:30 am with a lot of thoughts that keep you awake until about 8:00 am. 

This happens because cortisol follows the circadian wave. Cortisol is normally supposed to be the lowest at about 2:00 am and the highest at 8:00 am. When you have high cortisol, everything is backward. You might also feel like you need a nap mid-day around 2:00 – 3:00 pm.

In this video, we’re going to talk about stress-induced infections.

The following infections can be connected to stress:
• Tuberculosis (TB)
• Herpes simplex (cold sores)
• Shingles
• H-pylori (ulcers)
• Common cold
• HIV

Many viruses can lay dormant until a stress event weakens your immune system. Stress can significantly reduce your natural immune function. This is why many infections happen right after a major stress event.

There are two types of stress: acute and chronic. Acute stress affects the innate immune system—this is the part of the immune system you’re born with. Chronic stress affects the acquired immune system—this is the part of the immune system that you develop when you’re exposed to certain pathogens.

When you go through stress, your body releases cortisol. Cortisol can suppress white blood cells. White blood cells are a vital part of healthy immune function. So when you’re stressed, you don’t have that barrier to help protect your body from infections.

Stress can also make you susceptible to food allergies, autoimmune disorders, and slow wound healing.

In summary, stress can inhibit normal immune function and lead to stress-induced infections because of increased cortisol. It’s crucial to maintain healthy stress levels.
