well good morning everyone welcome back there’s a lot of questions feel free to give us a call let’s dive right in anything that i say is not meant or intended to cure you or replace your medical care check with your doctor before taking any of the advice that i’m about to talk about i’m going to jump right into desiree uh is calling um and she had a question are you there desiree i am dr berg how are you today are you there can you hear me hello i think you had a question related to which nutrients are essential for extended fasting yeah dr burke can you hear me i can hear you yeah yeah unfortunately uh yeah unfortunately you’re not able to hear desiree but why don’t you answer her questions as we sort through that and she is on the line okay so she had a question which nutrients are essential for extended fasting it’s a very very good question um and that would be um electrolytes i’m talking about potassium um and magnesium and even calcium and sodium you don’t really retain potassium and magnesium for a long time so if you’re going into a fast without these nutrients um you can be end up with a deficiency and you feel real dizzy and things like that and even sea salt too like that’s why i always recommend sea salt electrolytes and then a good electrolyte blend would be great the other thing that you need is b vitamins you don’t retain some of these b vitamins very long either and you need to b vitamins as you do keto and definitely fasting as well because you’re burning more fat you require more b vitamins so those two are really important and then if you could actually also add in trace minerals in there that would be also a very good thing as well and there’s other ones as well i’ve talked about this in other videos like omega 3 fatty acids but those fats tend to be stored in your fat cells a little bit longer so it’s really the water soluble vitamins that you need to put back in and some of the minerals that you don’t retain like zinc for example very very important i mean you retain calcium pretty well and iron but not these other ones vitamin c is another one that you don’t retain for a long time too so that would be another good thing to take as well okay doc i think you can hear each other why don’t you try that desiree can you hear me i can hear you perfectly now hi desiree okay hi dr burke how are you great um i heard you say electrolytes b vitamins trace minerals zinc and vitamin c are they what i need to do yes yeah zinc is part of the trace minerals so if you take a trace metal blend you’re going to be covered and then vitamin c as well but just make sure with your vitamin c it’s a food based it’s not like a synthetic version because you want the whole complex and even if i’m diabetic right i was need all of this especially if you’re diabetic because um you you’re always gonna you’re gonna go into this um with insulin resistance which means that you’re gonna need more nutrients to penetrate that resistance because insulin is required for absorption of a lot of these nutrients so i think what i would do as well if you’re since you’re diabetic is find my video on this topic and watch that because it’s a little bit more in detail for someone like you i think that can help you okay can i actually one quick question accurately you’re taking your essential 80 central amino acids and before i started taking them i had one grey hair in the front of my head i took them from and it literally and i couldn’t it disappeared i st and i i was stored so i stopped to them just to try to experiment and now it haven’t taken them about a month and now the one here is back is is it possible that one of the eight essentials controls like hair grains oh well think about what your hair is made out of it’s made out of amino acids so there’s no there’s a there’s a product i have it’s called keto aminos it’s all the essential amino acids and it’s good for a lot of different things what’s unique about it is that you you absorb like 99 of it compared to other protein you would only absorb like 50 but this is not a protein it’s it’s individual amino acids so it doesn’t take a lot of digestion it goes right in like a rocket ship and it’s really good for people that are fasting also if they’re trying to build muscle and also if they’re athletes and for other things too metabolic processes if they’re gastric bypass if they even like you you’re a diabetic you’re not going to absorb amino acids as well so this will just give you the amino acids drive it right into the tissues and think about how many different bile it’s a really good source i consume cheese on a regular basis just make sure it’s organic and grass-fed and also sheep cheese and goat cheese would be even better but i wouldn’t take i would not get your calcium primarily from a supplement um just because i mean if you find a good good source but don’t do the calcium carbonate and i just don’t recommend taking calcium as a supplement at all because it’s it’s very hard to die absorb that get it from you get your calcium from your food from dairy you can also get some calcium from leafy greens but i would never take calcium as a standalone vitamin especially calcium carbonate which is actually in most multivitamin minerals so it just creates a lot of issues actually even for women there’s some studies that will increase the chance of getting a heart attack so um calcium and iron for example are two minerals that our body tends to retain more than other minerals thank you very much dr bill you’re welcome thanks for your call doc by the way we lost your camera but we do have our little remote live uh icon up so we’re still going on with the show and maybe you can charge that but in the meantime everything is fine you can go on with the phone calls etc and the questions when you’re ready okay so can you see me with my backup camera i have a backup camera we’ll try that it might it may work we do have it yeah we have you it’s a and we’ll we’ll kind of adjust the way it looks a little bit but you’re back with us so that’s great doc okay um it’s the thing about my cameras i have to somehow i have to recharge it the way it’s hooked up so i have to figure that out hey bob um you’ve been waiting patiently you you wanted to follow up on your bloating and fluid retention are you there bob stand by doc hello hello bob hi yes hi thank you very much for taking my call again i appreciate it sure um yes following up uh i have to say for just one week it’s much improved i’m very very pleased with the way that it’s been going i’ve tried to implement all the things that you told me as far as eating just one time a day cutting way back on the vegetables really i’m not having any vegetables right now but i’ve i’ve gone down almost four pounds since we last spoke last friday so it really shows you know that the fluids and the bloating has as much reduced um i was just wondering though how long it takes to clear up sibo for one thing and when i can start having vegetables again how much would you recommend that i have at that time yeah i think i would give it two months because if you have sibo you’re going to have to really start taking more things like a betaine hydrochloride which is an acidifier that will start to add more acid to the stomach because you don’t want any microbes going through that stomach most a lot of people over the age of 50 have low stomach acids and that’s really what triggers the whole thing it’s one of the causes it’s not everything but it’s contributes the other thing that can help you reduce sibo is purify bile salts taking that because bile cells help as a secondary function to kill off microbes it’s like a detergent and throughout the small intestine that will speed things up greatly and then when you start to introduce the leafy greens um you know just do one cup per day and see how that goes and then maybe add to two and three and four these the the benefit of the fiber is going to give you short chain fatty acids which actually really really important in a lot of different things and also feel the colon cells they’ll actually give the colon cells energy as well and so that would be one thing to help you um but that’s great so we know that this is the thing that’s uh you need so we’re on the right track and um give it another couple months in the meantime because now you’re kind of like a carnivore you’re going to have to study up on how to do that correctly with nutrients like you may not just want to have meats you might want to do definitely eggs and seafood and other things to make sure you’re well-rounded maybe even some animal organ meats as well to get all your nutrients excellent thank you very much you’re you’re welcome bob all right steve we have the first question let’s do it stand by okay what is the what is the most difficult nutrient to get in your in your diet what what nutrient is the most difficult to get from just eating foods that’s the first question and as you guys chew on that question i’m going to go to sue had from detroit that had a question relating to your appetite while breastfeeding are you there hello hi hi dr greg i have been following a healthy keto before getting pregnant then i am breastfeeding now for 14 months maybe but i cannot control my appetite like i’m trying to push myself going on keto but it’s out of my control and my friends and family consider me an idol for allowing healthy lifestyle but i’m gaining weight i should be losing weight while breastfeeding but i am gaining weight and i don’t want to like quit by feeding my baby because it’s very essential for him i’m struggling what to do um okay so i do understand you definitely want to lose weight while you’re breastfeeding i i think um you’re right it’s it’s more important to focus on the quality of breast milk right now and um how many meals a day are you consuming oh my god probably i’m eating every two hours and i’m craving for sweets but i’m i’m going for fruit in order for my breast milk to be healthy the fruit yeah i think that’s the problem i think i would go back to keto because you’re you’re out of keto now which means you’re going to be hungry all the time which means you’re going to gain weight if you do keto and provide more nutrient dense keto foods seafood healthier fats and make sure you have all the nutrients the problem that i cannot it’s like very i’m trying to force myself but it’s like painful hunger right well that’s because when you’re actually doing more carbs like fruit that’s instantly going to raise your sugar and then drop it and then now you’re going to be hungry very frequently so yes sir but i i am like i don’t do carb i don’t eat bread or carb right yes this is when i like with some something pushing me supporting me but i do keto and breastfeeding like i success for two weeks then after that i just something out of my control pushing me like i cannot continue is that something i can do i think i think you uh having a baby is requiring certain nutrients i would i would go with more b vitamins more nutritional yeast and i would also take purified bile salts which will help you pull more nutrients out of the food that you’re already eating i think you’re just missing some nutrients i would go up with the nutrients if i were you primarily the b vitamins all right try that and let us know how that works okay all right steve do we have an answer answers for this the hardest nutrient to get from your diet okay we’re still working on that why don’t we go to another call let’s go to mary mary are you there i’m here hello hi mary how are you great thanks thank you for taking my call i have a question regarding shingles yes he has been dealing with the bout of shingles unexpectedly and i’m going to tell you i’m embarrassed to say i’m 60 years old i’m healthy i exercise i supplement i watch you i have holistic practitioners and i got the first flu shot i’ve ever had in my life so i want to start there i got it on a wednesday september 30th i started not feeling good on friday uh two days later and have kind of gone downhill since then i’m going back uphill but i developed shingles on my face left side of my face in my left eye i did watch your video um and i’ve been taking the 50 000 units of d3 and with the 500 mcgs of k2 and i started that just this past sunday so i’m wonder i’m also taking 3 000 units of or milligrams of lysine i’ve been taking that since the onset i’m taking vitamin c i got a b12 shot yesterday i’m doing everything so this the uh lesions have cleared up i have inflammation in my eye i’ve certainly been to my optimologist five times in a month i just went yesterday but now i’m dealing with of course the post herpetic neuralgia which i know you recommended the d3 and the m the k2 i guess my question is if you have any other recommendations or how long it may take for that to kick in right and i think this was a coincidence with the vaccine right i think it is yeah that hap i mean i’ve seen this all the time in practice where there’s someone who gets a flu shot or something all of a sudden it stirs up a hornet’s nest and unfortunately now we’re trying to backtrack so um there’s one thing that they do put in vaccines now which is the aluminum which it’s called an um it’s it’s basically something to enhance the immune reaction so one thing you can do um yes hello you can hello hi can you hear me oh yeah you cut out there for a minute okay silica silica is something you can start taking that binds with aluminum that’s one thing you can take to if that is going if that’s actually creating a problem but i think the thing that you need to do is calm down the immune system with more vitamin d and more fasting prolonged fasting to help repair this damage that this has created and just kind of let it go through its process because once the immune system is like activating some dormant virus it’s almost like it’s really hard to stop it because you’re in a full-blown immune system and an immune reaction then you just have to let it go through the process but to speed it up vitamin d will calm things down and i would probably even go up to 50 000 ius every day and i would do some more fasting those are the two things really that you need to do and then try to reduce stress as much as possible i know some people that get poison ivy a lot and uh and once they get it if they’re highly allergic um you know one thing that they can do is as well is just because they’re in this immune reaction is to take a lot of vitamin d and then fast and at least those two actions will modulate or just kind of chill out the immune system because it’s overreactive right now zinc is something else that i would definitely start to beef up and it just so happens that zinc is in beef so you can use that as well but zinc vitamin d and fasting are your three things that i would focus on right now okay dr berg how about some results from your first question and i’ll repeat it what is the most difficult nutrient to get from your diet and the survey says 55 from vitamin d 30 b12 and 15 zinc what say your doctor well the answer is vitamin d it’s almost impossible to get the amount of vitamin um the from your diet that’s why we go for the sun especially in the winter unless you’re doing um fatty fish on a regular basis in cod liver oil it’s very difficult to get it and this is why so many people are deficient steve so going forward into the winter i always recommend add vitamin d to your diet and you’re going to find as a supplement and cod liver oil is one good source as well but you’ll find that your aches and pains will be kind of chilled out a little bit your low back pain won’t be as bad um your mood will be better because as you go into the winter and you don’t get enough sun boy it’s like you get stiff low back pain depression those are the three big things that um occur without vitamin d and there’s many others as well and you just mentioned 50 000 units so five of your fabulous uh d3k2 so that’s oh that is that’s mainly for an immune reaction okay if you’re just maintaining it you just need probably um and i know some of you are going to say wow that’s a lot 10 000 ius a day but if you’re over the age of 45 if your skin is a little bit darker if you have weight problems all these factors increase majorly your need for vitamin d so um personally i’m i’m recommending 10 000 i use as a maintenance dosage for vitamin d3 so i personally take 20 um and if you’re concerned about that i have probably like five or six videos on you know what are the side effects of too much vitamin d and you’re going to find that you would have to take a lot i’m talking hundreds of thousands of vitamin d for many months before it becomes a problem so i wouldn’t worry about it too much all right sounds great doc all right we have some questions on social media would you like to take one yes i would like to take some of those questions okay so facebook of legia religia if i’m saying that right what is the best food sources for vitamin b1 b1 yes sir okay um sunflower seeds is a good source also nutritional yeast is a really good source vitamin b1 is in a lot of different foods the key with b1 is to avoid things that deplete your b1 too much caffeine as in coffee or even tea tannic acid will deplete your b1 um and of course the refined carbs will definitely decrease your your b1 if you’re a diabetic and you have higher sugars or if you’re doing more carbs then the the demand for b1 goes way up if you drink alcohol your demand for b1 goes way up so nutritional yeast is the best source and i just would recommend adding that as part of your diet but sunflower seeds do have b1 as well make sure that the raw ones because b1 is a bit sensitive to heat great thanks lucia for that question do you want to kick off another question or should we yes i do what is the easiest okay we talked about the most difficult nutrient from your diet what about what is the nutrient that’s the easiest to get from your diet so let’s let’s see if you guys have that one correct as we go to darmonder from minneapolis are you there dominder from minneapolis yes i’m here hi how are you i’m doing good wow i’m doing good in general yeah are you really doing that my main issue has been my um you know gut uh i have had uh ibs uh more of or on type c they call it right more on the constipation side um for for almost since my early 20s i’m 53 right now close to 53 and uh it’s been heck of a ride i mean i’ve tried different therapies and i’ve felt good and i felt bad um but um i in 2012 i did uh uh you know nutritional therapy with dr larry wilson um they give supplements and whatnot but i’m i’m really looking for a starting point i cannot tolerate any supplements anymore so i’m really looking for a good starting point to start healing my gut can you tell me um can you can you give me a couple ideas of what type of foods that you eat on a daily basis um i eat a lot of veggies mostly you know different type of vegetables um you know with my in my breakfast lunch and dinner um and i eat quinoa or brown rice that’s pretty much it or i’ll take you know gluten-free breads i cannot tolerate gluten either yeah i think i know the problem i think i know the problem um you’re eating foods that do have irritants to your colon in the brown rice unfortunately in the grains grains in general are real hard and even for a certain percentage of population vegetables can uh create a lot of issues with your gut um in this case i know you’re a vegetarian um no i’m i’m not a strict vegetarian i can definitely i’m open to eating meat my family had a background where we used to eat meat so i am definitely open to that it’s there’s no constraint over there okay i would i’m gonna recommend you do an experiment i want you to do something for one week and then call me back next week um i want you to do um more of a carnivore diet and include seafood include meats and eggs and i want to see how your gut feels within one week don’t do any grains no vegetables and let’s just see how you do in one week because for someone like you i think that may be a significant um relief to your gut and also i want you to do some in a minute fasting so don’t eat three meals a day like do two meals a day work on that and then touch space with me next week because unless we get your diet corrected all these supplements are not going to do anything okay i’ll tell you my experience with meat also if i eat chicken or egg i mean i have a really hard time the next day yeah so i think you could have because of what you have you’re probably um there’s there either is allergies also an inability to digest some of these proteins so i would stick with the shellfish if you could do it or fish um and maybe some lamb and try some other protein that you can digest but definitely not the ones that you know for a fact will create a problem okay thanks for your call steve what do we have as answers yes sir let me put the question up and it is what is the easiest nutri nutrients gives me to get from your diet and the survey says 45 from calcium 45 is calcium 35 percent is what’s that oh vitamin c i’m sorry i couldn’t read and 20 uh potassium do we have any smarty pants in the audience okay so um the easy actually the easiest one to get is vitamin k1 it’s in not only is it in so many foods but your microbes make b1 so it’s very very very unlikely for you to become k1 deficient because it’s one of those things that stops bleeding and so your body as a survival mechanism has created um created many different possible sources from this from your own microbes to the food that you eat and so i guess i could even worded this question a little bit differently what’s the uh what’s what’s probably the one of the least nutritional deficiencies that you’ll ever have it’s a k1 unless you’re on coumatin you’re you’re taking a drug that’s blocking it because that would that’s a whole different situation but most people are not deficient in k1 now we’ll just have to give the audience okay thanks steve hey let’s go to matt um matt you had a question about exercise are you there yes i am thanks for taking my call i was wondering if you could speak to the relationship between gluconeogenesis and um and using ketones um for energy production and how that might inform the kind of exercise and the intensity of it and then also um just another quick question if i’ve got plenty of stored fuel in terms of fat already should i be reducing my dietary fat very low if i’m already producing ketones and in good ketosis thanks good question good questions um let me take the last question first i wouldn’t go i wouldn’t go too low i would not go below 75 grams of fat because we need those fats for many many different things but of course yes if you reduce your fat your body is forced to produce more ketones and i guess you cannot run your entire body on ketones there’s a certain i’d say about a third of your tissues require glucose and parts of the pituitary gland parts of the hypothalamus the lens of the eye the red blood cell part of your kidney need glucose here’s what you need to know your body can very easily make this glucose through this process of gluconeogenesis and it can make it from ketones it doesn’t even need it doesn’t even need protein to make it can make it from your own fat so when you’re exercising um you’re basically going to oxidize your glucose your store glucose as glycogen from your liver and you’re going to start tapping in the fat and the the key with what i think you’re trying to do is you’re trying to use up your stored fuel and also make sure that when you exercise you’re having an optimum fuel source so you’re maybe you don’t run out of those glute that glucose that’s needed by certain parts of your tissue but i think it’s going to be a process where you’re going to have to adapt to more fat oxidation over a period of months which does take some time if you do hardcore keto your body will start making more ketones and then when you add more exercise more and more you’ll be more of a fat burner and that is much healthier and you can last longer but in this transition phase a lot of people end up with like hitting this wall where they’re not adapting as much and so they feel kind of low blood sugar issues and they tap out of the glycogen and not converting over to fat burning as well and that is a reflection of your liver so if you have a fatty liver for example where there’s you have a gut which means you have a fatty liver it might take a longer period of time so one little tip that i would give you and other people if you have a lot of weight to lose i would focus on trying to get that liver working better faster and that will speed up everything is especially your ability to adapt to ketosis and less reliance on blood and running on glucose and less reliance on gluconeogenesis and to do that you take choline purify bile salts lecithin there are three things that will speed things up and that will dump the fat off the liver a lot faster all right thanks for your question dr berg yes um one one other question if my body is producing a high amount of ketones i’m always above two to five and a half millimoles does that mean my liver is functioning well yeah or is it probably poorly no i think you’d i think it’s functioning pretty well because um it’s you’re still within a good range and i wouldn’t i mean if you’re going up into like you see eight nine ten that’s a big problem but you’re you’re in a good range i think that’s another indication that your liver is doing pretty good um you know it wouldn’t hurt you know at some point to get it just get a liver uh profile and see if there’s any problems with enzymes being too high with liver enzymes but honestly if you’re on keto and you’re doing intermittent fasting and you’re exercising i think that all that’s going to help your liver so i think you’re right on track i would just ride the wave and um you can always tweak things but i think you’re doing pretty good okay doc how about a few more uh questions from social media yes all right all right guys are you bad on facebook susan wants to know how much iron do i need with chronic anemia she has an anemic problem you know here’s the here’s the thing be careful about the type of um irony you take there’s something called ferrous sulfate i think it’s called this is uh yeah ferrous sulfate that’s a common one that they uh there there’s a lot of different supplements i would not take that if i were you because um there’s a high incidence of gi symptoms and constipation and it’s very oxidizing it’s oxidating it irritates the cold and it creates inflammation a much better source of iron than supplements is concentrated supplements as in grass-fed liver supplements or grass-fed liver or red meat or a good one would be you can also get spleen extracts they have like a bovine spleen extract i know some people might be grossed out about it but it’s a really good iron protein bound it’s more like the iron comes in more of a bound to an amino acid it’s called it’s chelated so it’s much easier on the system so anything you get like a chelated iron that’s bound with protein is way better than the ferrous sulfate that they have in a lot of different supplements but let’s say you’re doing that and it’s still not working the real cause is or the more a more common cause would be low stomach acids so if you were to take betaine hydrochloride in your diet you would be much better off and you probably see your anemia go going away um not only that is that when you take or consume red meat for example and you can’t break down the red meat and you can’t extract the iron from the protein and you’re not assimilating iron or even the calcium because your stomach acids aren’t strong enough that could be why you’re anemic as well and the stomach acid also will help you kill two birds with one stone because it will help you absorb b12 without the stomach acid you can have an anemia from b12 as well as an iron deficiency anemia so honestly if you’re already consuming some red meat and and you’re still anemic it could be your menstruating that could be one issue but the other common one is low stomach acid so the secret is betaine hydrochloride take about four or five of those before you eat and you should see some change within one about one week all right steve all right another quiz or what would you like yes i’m going for another quiz what is the number one cause of fatigue over the age of 50. and now i know steve that you’re about 45 years old but you will find out after you’re 50 you may start noticing a little fatigue so the question is what is the most common cause of fatigue in people over 50. all right they are advised okay so let’s go to eric from anaheim you had a question eric um are you there yes i’m here can you hear me yes perfectly oh hi dr burke i have a question and before i get to my question i want to let you know that that you’ve been an inspiration to me and as a matter of fact but i’m also taking your keto and intermittent fasting courses and your health code and your health courses because someday i do want to yeah so that way i want to i do want to become a health coach and you’ve been so much an inspiration so thank you so much for my call yeah so michael yeah so my question to you is so this is more pertaining to my girlfriend so my girlfriend i my girlfriend i have been doing healthy healthy keto with intermittent fasting tips september 1st and for me luckily for me during this stretch of time i’ve lost 31 pounds wow and that’s for yeah and as for her she only lost four pounds and yeah yeah yeah so she doesn’t have luck in her end unfortunately so the thing is that she has an iud and i want to know if if the iud is causing her weight loss um yeah it could be a barrier it could definitely be a barrier um especially if it’s even a copper iud it can create an imbalance with zinc and create some issues with that um i know there’s an issue with uh birth control um there’s it’s a very difficult problem to solve without complications um i think that could be slowing things down but before you jump into that being the reason what i would do is i’d watch some of my videos on plateau and make sure that once you’re doing keto correctly number two is your carbs low enough is she doing fasting long enough if you go through the list and you still have problems then you want to look look at something like that and other body weaknesses that she may have is she estrogen dominant um those type of things so because the difference between you know a man and a woman has to do with the estrogen that’s why they can’t lose weight as fast because estrogen is a prevents the loss of weight and but there’s a lot of things you can do um but that is a a complaint for a lot of women like you know my other half can lose weight i can’t but definitely um watch my videos on plateau try that out and see if that doesn’t help her and if it doesn’t then we’re going to have to find a plan b for the iud okay thank you so much you’re welcome good luck all right steve do we have an answer yet no still tabulating that but elizabeth one of our valued listeners wants to know why the front of my calves are itching i hate it when that happens well i i don’t know if it’s exposed to something environmentally it could be a situation but itching in general if you have itching you want to look to the liver and it could also be a backup of bile into the blood which can then deposit into the skin and create uh pureitis which is itching so one interesting little thing you might want to try is to take some purified bile salts on an empty stomach and see if the itching goes away and if it does then we know it’s a problem with your liver slash gallbladder oh by the way steve people a location of where some people or majority people have itching when they have liver issues is in the bottom of the foot right in the arch so yeah so that’s just an fyi i think that might be another video uh to talk about why that is itching in your arch arch itching faster with consumed height by the way we do have some answers doc yeah go ahead all right so question is what is the number one cause of fatigue in people over 50 that unfortunately includes me and 40 percent of us say a lack of vitamin d 50 percent uh say or excuse me another 40 say a lack of vitamin b and 20 percent say low testosterone you know all of you guys are right and girls are right um but there is something that i don’t know that i found to be even more common in those things and that has to do with stomach acids not having enough stomach acids which relates to another question we talked about as you age especially over the age of 50 and then 60 and 70 you start really losing your stomach acid and there are so many reasons why you get tired from that number one you can’t digest protein that well anymore number two you become iron anemic and then you also number three you have low b12 and then you can’t absorb minerals um so and this definitely relates if you get more tired when you eat definitely suspect low stomach acids now if you are tired and this kind of makes sense to you very very simple solution get some betaine hydrochloride take three or four or five actually four or five of those before you eat consistently and you’re gonna find that your energy goes up i mean when i was in practice it was like so many people had this problem i would just put them on some obtained hydrochloride they would do so much better with their digestion and with their energy it goes right up and now they’re starting to really absorb these minerals like iron and magnesium and they start to digest it’s just a real common problem especially when you get older all right steve we’re going to go to um julie from los angeles are you there hi julie go ahead hello oh thank you dr berg i have many many issues first of all i’m a muslim i fast every year the fasting last year was very difficult for me uh during the day i would get like i can’t breathe i’d get fatigued um like i have to lay down i i can’t even you know get up it’s very weak i this happens to me every year i’ve been on a gluten-free diet for like three years now i can’t take dairy i can’t because of my gut i have fibromyalgia i have like chronic pain in my arms and my back now when i did the glute free the pain was better for like maybe 90 now that now i’m starting to get back to pain i’m still on the gluten free um i’m still taking supplements i i see a holistic doctor that’s helping me out i haven’t seen any results yet the supplements i’m taking supplements but i’m finding like sometimes the supplements really weigh me down like i prefer to take supplements like in a powder form so i have a question i have a question what part of your body hurts more the right side or the left side um well in my arm the right side because i have the right side i have it in my shoulder and my hand and i also have discs i have two herniated discs also as well right so here’s here’s what i’m going to tell you about this okay you need to take it even further than a gluten-free diet you need to go into the healthy version of keto and intermittent fasting because i think your digestive problems are behind this this pain and fibromyalgia and in practice um i would notice that nearly everyone that came in with fibromyalgia had it on the right side the arm the shoulder the hand and that is because the gallbladder is on the right side now you’re going to say well what what’s that connection well the hip bone is connected to the thigh bone now it’s your gallbladder has a it’s right underneath the diaphragm there’s a little nerve called the phrenic nerve that goes all the way up to the right shoulder which can then literally cause a spasm in the muscles into your neck and cause a kind of a pinched nerve down the right side and boy does it feel like fibromyalgia on the right side so anything you can do to support the gallbladder and that would be what i’m telling you healthy keto intermittent fasting i would definitely take a gallbladder formula support um like with each meal and then on empty stomach maybe take two of those or three of those a day and then what will happen is that your gallbladder will be better you’ll start absorbing more nutrition you’ll have less pain and you’ll start healing the different parts of your body i think this is a really easy problem to solve if if you get the the basics in not adding more whole bunch of supplements but just doing healthy keto dairy free of course no more grains follow my my videos on that and then julie do that for this week and then call me next week and tell me how much better you are because um we gotta look at the whole picture here and i think there you’re missing a real real important thing thanks for your call all right doc by the way and i’m not sure if this shows up on your little list but colleen has been on for quite a while from alberta canada by the way she loves your kale shake but she wants to know how much k2d3 does she need for optimum health hi colleen how are you good morning very well thank you good morning great i think you answered my question when you said you take 20 i use with d3 for maintenance okay now i can’t get yours your ten thousand iud which is not your fault i know and i can’t even get it from dr mccola’s site so all i can get is a thousand i use a d3 i had to buy two separate bottles yesterday in order to get k2 120 micrograms with the d3 and then so uh do i just go ahead and take 20 of these like a day yeah if you if you know if you get it in a liquid you because i think you’re in canada and the problem is that when i um they have recruit they have these these rules that you can’t do like especially high levels of potassium or vitamin d and so um i would probably find a liquid and that might be easier but yes you need to just take more and and when i say a maintenance dose of d3 in k2 uh i’m talking about 20 000 ius through the winter months now during the summer i’m getting a lot more sun so i probably don’t even take it at all um that’s just an fyi but during the winter especially from if you have kind of a history of inflammation like i do and old injuries i need a little bit more d3 simply just because i have um if i don’t things kind of kick in gear and just because years of wear and tear but um but yeah that’s that’s what i would recommend okay um does the bulletproof coffee break the your fast i put butter and coconut oil i don’t know if that’s correct and i don’t know if i’m putting you know what you’re too little it’s going to um it’s not going to break your ketosis okay you’re going to make more ketones but it may slow down weight loss because your body is using those things to make ketones versus your own fat fuel and so um what’s interesting is when you’re fasting um you’re on a high fat diet you’re actually on a high fat diet when you’re fasting you’re and um but as soon as you start to add more fat the body we’ll just use that and so will it break your fast depends on your definition of a fast but i don’t as long as you know you’re happy with it it gives you energy that’s great but if you’re trying to lose more weight you might want to just not add that in there and see what happens okay um is it normal to i fasted for 48 hours and i stayed the same weight then like the third day i was like what i’m still the same weight what i got only got 22 pounds to lose and i mean i that’s probably normal right okay so um that means that you are your metabolism obviously is slow and there’s a lot of things you can do to speed this up but i wouldn’t take that as a loss um the main thing is there’s i would go with the other benefits of fasting right now which are cognitive function energy etc but here’s the thing um as you’re starting this out that that could happen as your body heals and you go through autophagy you’re going to be recycling a lot of protein so you may start noticing that your size like your stomach is shrinking a little bit but your weight is not just because you’re healing more atrophied muscles which is a little bit heavier per volume than fat so i would not be too concerned with that but what i would do is when you go back to your eating maybe once a day and then do more of the prolonged fasting and even go longer sometimes and then just make sure you keep your carbs really really low and just give it more time and follow exactly like how like i talk about in some of the videos i have on on plateau because it just happens with certain people that just have a slow metabolism and there’s many things you can do to overcome that but in the beginning that’s not uncommon thanks for your call all right doc how about another quiz yes here’s a true or false well let me just say this are ketones fats is a ketone of fat yes or no that’s that’s the next question steve okay good so now let’s go to sandra from winterhaven had a question go ahead sandra hi can you hear me perfectly okay thank you um and thank you for taking my call i last time i spoke to you um we’re gonna try to get my gallbladder fixed so i bought the gallbladder formula and the instructions it says take three times a day one with each meal naturally i’m only eating once a day so i don’t know if it would be better for my gallbladder to do something really small three times a day to get the gallbladder fixed or if i should just stay eating once a day and take three or once a day and just do one what i would do if i were you i would take that first one on an empty stomach since you’re not having a breakfast hopefully like taking an empty stomach because what’s gonna happen that bile is going to help you unjam any kind of blockage in your bile ducts to the liver and help the drainage and there’s huge benefits of taking an empty stomach antimicrobial benefits um helping you dissolve if any there’s fatty fat on the liver um and um you know counteracting if there’s any sibo there’s absorbing more fat soluble nutrients even from that’s in your body like to help you up simulating that but main thing is is the flow of gallbladder through these ducts because when you take the purify bile salts when you’re eating it’s primarily going to be working on the dietary fat that you’re eating more than what’s happening in your physiology so i would just add it on an empty stomach not a problem good question sandra okay doc we’ve got the the answer and i i pray for the audience that uh this is uh trek because they say uh oh i’m sorry there was a little about 90 say true and 10 say false so where does that leave us okay all right so this uh could uh kind of you know throw you guys off but no ketones are not a fat they’re actually made from fat they come from fat but they’re not an actual fat it’s different than a fat it’s a fuel source that your body prefers especially in the brain in the heart but it’s not a fat and the other interesting thing about it that um your liver your liver does cannot use ketones it makes ketones but it doesn’t use it so there’s certain tissues and i’ll do a video on this that cannot utilize ketones you know a small percentage of your body but the majority does use ketones especially the brain and two parts of the brain that really need ketones in a bad way would be the hippocampus which is all about memory and learning and the frontal cortex which is involved in processing and making judgments and planning and whatever um now they don’t really know for sure what it does but it’s it’s like a relay for those functions that’s all i’m going to say with that but if that part of your brain is damaged then people have symptoms with those things but as far as feeding those parts of your brain ketones are the answer but it’s not a fact that’s interesting by the way myra from san nicolas hello myra was the 10 she said not a fat so we must shout out to her and by the way there’s a fascinating question so good for you myra lou was sick with covert 19 just like me but now he can’t lose weight on keto is there any connection by the way lou and i know doesn’t help you to hear that that was not my experience i’m i’m doing well with the intermittent fasting in keto but that’s an interesting side effect perhaps i think i think the immune system is still needs some support so i think the best thing to do um related to with your immune system is to do whatever you can to drop inflammation take more vitamin d take more zinc those two right there and then there’ll be less inflammation stronger immune system more weight loss because think about it if you’re not sleeping at night if you have more stress if you have a weakened immune system your metabolism is influenced greatly so i think that’s what you’re running into right now is just some residual inflammation or um definitely as it relates to stressing your body in general okay all right how about one more phone call last for the day yep all right so before i answer this one last phone call actually no we answer all the questions right okay good um yeah let’s go to linda linda are you there well that’s lydia doc lydia are you there oh lydia sorry lydia yes that’s okay uh can you hear me good perfectly okay i have a question about well a few questions about certain things um nutritional east um i have both of them i have yours and i have bob’s red bell and i wanted to know the difference it’s kind of hard to take the tablet it’s really easy for me to take the the powder another one another one is the hair uh formula um with the intermediate fasting how long until i see results after taking this have another one we wanted you i heard you talking about chickens and we wanted to buy chickens and the ones that we buy are i mean the eggs that we buy is the vital organic pasta raised and they’re the only ones that are really yellow we buy sometimes from the farms and they’re like they’re like almost white like light yellow so what if we buy chickens other than i know sometimes in the winter they need to be fed certain things and what is an additional feed that you can feed other than grain or what do you feed them you know you have to do grains but i do um organic grains but i let the chickens out all day long to eat the worms and the bugs and everything and they’re out all the time we have like eight of them now and um so they get this huge variety and i make it myself if sunflower seeds and a couple different grains of course all non-gmo and meal worms and calcium flakes and a whole series of things i’ll do a video on that because there’s a whole protocol that you can give these chickens and they just love it and they will lay eggs all winter long which is unusual but they have the nutrition to do it but definitely you want to let them free range and go through the yard and get the bugs um as far as the bob’s mill um i think it’s uh they’re fortifying it with synthetic vitamins if i’m not mistaken um so one of the things that you there is other sources you can get a powder that is unfortified and when i say unfortified i’m saying mainly without the synthetic additional vitamins because um they do that routinely um the other thing that this is your pal steve and i am a freak for dr berg’s uh nutritional yeast and those are healthy sized pills and they’re difficult to swallow so i crunch them i mean i don’t know if you’ve tried that but they’re a very nutty flavor and i just love them i just uh you know have no issue with that at all and have grown accustomed to the taste that might be an acquired taste but a lot of people do that sounds great good idea steve yep you can crush them i chew them i don’t swallow them because they’re like they’re quite big but i chewed them and yeah it’s um you know up to just to figure that out but um yeah terry was doing the heimlick on me like every week before i decided to chew them up so yeah they’re too big to swallow i think so a little different and i think you had another question there was one more question um i’m going to make sure i go about the hair formula i have a lot of hair loss like fall every time i brush it’s just hair and yeah this is this is what i would do i would um make sure of course you’re doing healthy keto and intermittent fasting but also there’s something called essential aminos and these essential aminos you take those um just once a day and um you get a way better absorption rate of protein in general and since hair is made out of amino acids um you’ll it’ll just bypass any type of digestive weakness that you have and goes right into the tissue like a rocket ship and that would help you and then i would just double the hair formula and then see what happens i think that should be the ticket in fact what you could do is try this for two weeks and then call me call me back on our show and see how you do thank you lydia all right listen guys i really appreciate your bearing with some of these tactical difficulties um stay tuned for some more videos and um i have some real interesting topics coming up but um stay tuned and thank you so much for your questions that you gave us and uh we’ll talk to you next week you

good morning everyone hi all right so uh you know we’re back in the studio we’ve been uh actually in another location so we’re here to answer all your questions there’s a lot of calls coming and we have social media is going to be a pumping full a lot of a lot of different uh questions and also people from all over the world so you can actually start making notes on that okay anything that we say not meant to diagnose or replace your medical care check with your doctor before implementing any things that we talk about that’s my disclaimer all right so i have some really interesting questions quizzes for people i had no doubt but we’re gonna just jump right in and i want to talk to barbara from central california she had a question uh barbara are you there yes i am hi what was your question good morning good morning i have hi good morning sir i have high blood pressure information and gout and my doctor is saying my liver is not fluctuating correctly okay got it i don’t know what to do are you on keto yet i’m learning keto i’m trying keto i’m still coming off of sugar and i’m starting to intimate um intimate fats great great let me just kind of give you my two cents on on what you should do or what i would recommend of course you’re going to be pleasantly surprised when you start implementing healthy keto and especially intermittent fasting together for a couple reasons one is going to it’s going to reduce your inflammation and with that comes a lot of good things so you’re going to be in less pain also you might want to add the lemon juice with water and it doesn’t have to be fresh you can get it out of the a bottle and take the lemon juice probably maybe one or two ounces a day with water and what that’s going to do it’s going to help reduce your symptoms from gout so that’s one thing you could do i would recommend as you’re new to this adding electrolytes in b vitamins like nutritional yeast just because that way the transition is going to be good but just focus on lowering your carb start with three meals a day and then no snacks add more fat with the meals and then slowly get rid of your breakfast and then you’re at two meals and then most people also try to do one meal a day it’s called omad one meal a day eating one meal a day so um but you don’t have to but let your body tell you when to make that transition also because you have high blood pressure there’s a couple other things that might support that and that would be vitamin d i would get something like maybe 20 000 i use of vitamin d and then also potassium citrate that which should be in your electrolyte powder make sure you have a lot of vegetables to get your more potassium and then i think if you did that i think it would help you a lot so try it and then let us know barbara thanks for your question and then let’s see we’re going to go to chicago rochelle are you there i am hi dr bird hi i’m good i’m good so i’m so happy i got through i’ve been trying to get through the last few weeks so i’ve got a couple of related questions and you you’ve been over the target on on this and some of your videos and prior prior shows but i wanted to ask you directly yeah um i had i had orthopedic surgery two and a half weeks ago i had i had a ligament reconstructed i had ruptured it that attaches the fibula to the tibia when when i did the injury on labor day i immediately did a two-week water fast to control the inflammation wow that’s great but going into surgery i was afraid to do an extended fast for that long so i broke it okay okay so now that i’m past surgery uh um i’m wondering if for healing purposes um if if doing an an extended fast would be enough would be appropriate for the same reason to control swelling and and i’m i’m non-weight-bearing on crutches for six weeks i feel like i’m just sitting around getting fat so i want to fast but i’m afraid that i could alter the healing and of course the traditional you know the orthopedic doctor physical therapy isn’t real keen on on fasting so i’m a little conflicted right now even though i’m an experienced extended faster i have an idea this is something you could do um i would recommend maybe some try to do a 72-hour fast do that maybe every week or two weeks and then of course with your regular intermittent fasting make sure your meals are really nutrient dense but while you’re fasting make sure you at the same time take all the necessary nutrients required nutrients that i talk about because that way as you’re fasting you won’t deprive you won’t be depleted so that way your body has a chance to have the full healing and i’m also going to mention something um it’s called the keto aminos because that that is um a blended combination of essential amino acids that if you take that while you’re fasting it’s not going to bump you out of fasting because like 99 of it’s going to turn over into body tissue if you took that to get your protein while you’re fasting it might be a good strategy because what you’re trying to do is you’re trying to maximize the benefit from decreasing inflammation healing but then of course we want to provide supply the necessary protein for the restoration of what your body is going through so i think that would be a really good product to take an empty stomach probably take the dosage that that’s on the bottle but three times a day so because typically if you add regular protein whether it’s bone broth or other things that’s gonna half of that at least half of that’s gonna turn into glucose or be wasted as nitrogen through the urine but not the um the keto aminos because that will that’s uh this is very interesting different phenomena where it’s actually going to be turned over to body tissue so i think that might be a great great a great uh suggestion for you thanks for your call i am ready for the first quiz of the day and then we’ll go right to some questions okay with that because i want to get this ball wrong i have a lot of questions okay now the first question is there are two phytonutrients okay phytonutrients and they’re called carotenoids and basically one of them is called lutein and the other one’s called zeanthenin okay what phytonutrient plant-based chemical goes beyond just the vitamin mineral it’s actually a adds additional health benefits okay so we have these two different plant chemicals okay that i just mentioned for those of you listening what part of the body does the majority of these two phytonutrients go to and get and accumulate what part of your body does lutein and zeanthenin accumulate in and by the way speaking of those who are listening we are breaking records on viewership and of course that is a great testament to both of your great you know offerings to the public and we are very very grateful for all of those that uh you know offer their patronage to the show so fantastic new records on it thank you uh the world that’s awesome thank you world okay so while they’re answering that question okay so just again there’s two plant chemicals and they’re called but they’re not they’re they’re called phytonutrients which is plant-based chemicals but really they’re also in other foods too and they’re nutrients they can be in um shrimp because these phytonutrients give color like yellow golden orange lutein is golden or yellow kind of a golden yellow it’s an egg yolks it’s in um shrimp yellow peppers yeah yep and and the other one is what xeontonin and what color is that i’m not sure exactly what the color it could be roughly it could be the same color i i don’t know for sure i’m just guessing and so okay these are pigments that that give special benefits superpowers and and then we’re supposed to tell you what part of the body gets the most of that yes what part of the body absorbs the most of that because it’s very it’s very specialized in other words certain tissue is going to accumulate those two specific phytonutrients so i want to see if you guys can actually okay find out i mean just answer that question these are good things right yeah these are really good things okay just yeah absolutely okay good all right so do you have any questions oh see i had an answer and a lot of people are agreeing with me well good i’m excited good okay yes we have questions so we have pamela on youtube uh she wants to know can she do keto as a vegetarian yeah yes you can i’ve done maybe two videos on this probably should do more but you just have to be careful because it’s very easy to get your carbs too high and it’s a little difficult to it’s more difficult to do it simply because you’re going to have to take certain nutrients in addition to things dha zinc b12 so as long as you do all that you can do it it’s possible but it’s just more difficult well okay good now julie’s asking what about losing hair on keto discouraging um if you’re doing the healthy version of keto that i recommend that shouldn’t be a problem as much but let but let’s say you are losing hair on your in keto that means that you need to beef up no pun and tendon your trace minerals and just what happens that zinc and some other trace minerals actually are in beef but shellfish would be a really good extra food to add more trace minerals you can also get trace minerals as a supplement and then the b vitamins those two nutritional yeast is a really good source of b vitamins if you have the b vitamins and the trace minerals that normally should help your hair and there’s other other things you can do as well but just watch my video i’ve done probably maybe 17 videos on hair you can watch too because there’s other things you can do as well good and then i think it’s irina is asking what nutrients would you recommend for someone with anemia well um there’s a couple different types of anemia there’s a b12 anemia there’s also iron anemia so if it’s both of those can be solved by consuming red meat or liver you can get them in a supplement i would not i wouldn’t jump to take a supplement that it has iron in it because a lot of times it’s the wrong kind and it accumulates in the body it’s very dangerous too especially for men to do too much iron because it accumulates we don’t have a way of getting rid of it women if they’re menstruating they do get rid of excess iron but we don’t so it can really create problems with our liver cirrhosis scar tissue and things like that if we have too much but with anemia many times it’s going to be not necessarily a lack of iron it’s going to be a lack of stomach acid so if you were to take betaine hydrochloride apple cider vinegar that would be two things that would help you be less anemic now i will i think what i’m going to do is i’m going to do another video on anemia just to explain all the different types so that way you can have that data thanks for that inspiration though all right now the question is what body part karen is accumulating all the lutein in zeanthonin zeaxanthin what is it zeaxanthin you sure i’m positive is that your final answer yep okay so i think the number one answer is eyes and the answer is eyes you are correct well done yeah yes the eyes um well done guys you guys are smart now that’s what i was i’m going to do my first my flash see see you knew this now based on that i’m going to go right into quiz number two because it it relates to it because it’s fresh in your mind based on this last question that i just asked you what two conditions of the body can taking lutein or getting it from your food and zeaxanthin help you with what two conditions in the eye can both of these phytonutrients help you with well that’s the question number two okay okay good okay so now why while they’re answering that i’m going to jump right to heidi from memphis tennessee are you there yes good morning good morning thank you for taking my call absolutely um my question is i’ve i’ve been on keto for about two and a half months um trying to do the healthy keto and i keep seeing things about a three to five day egg fast i’ve done a little research it looks like it consists of high quality eggs cheese and butter for a healthy fat and it’s said to like jump start a weight loss or a plateau i just want to know if you think this is a healthy to do it’s safe and if so how often would it be done safely so i have a question you mean so you’re going to be doing um basically you do fasting but you add three to five eggs per day right you do it for three to five days okay and how many eggs are you doing per day um i said between six and ten was recommended and then a table it was a tablespoon of healthy fat and an ounce of cheese if you choose to add it okay and then how are you spreading it out through the whole day are you just eating it in one sitting uh no it would be three to four meals a day so every four hours i believe yeah i’m gonna tell you why i don’t recommend that and i think you can modify it it’s the real key thing is frequency of eating anything you’re going to be spiking insulin every time you eat anything even if it’s healthy eggs are great what i would do instead which i think you’d get much better results if you ate all those eggs at one sitting for one day like each day you fast because we don’t want the frequency of eating now maybe you break it down to two meals but egg is is close is very close to the probably the most balanced nutrient-wise food you have the protein you have the fats you have um a lot of vitamins minerals pretty much the uh one of the only nutrients that eggs don’t have is vitamin c um not much vitamin c if anything so if you were to add vitamin c in a whole uh form like like let’s say you did sauerkraut you did a cup of sauerkraut you’d get enough vitamin c with your eggs and then you did the butter and you do these other things i think that might be a little bit better than than what than just the eggs but i like the idea of a little cheese i like the um the butter in fact i could probably live on that as well but i’ll be talking about eggs in some upcoming videos simply because there’s some real interesting data on that but thanks heidi for your great question what have we got what do we have as answers how do people ask what are people saying people are saying a couple of different things cataracts glaucoma macular degeneration and night vision are the four most common okay now i want to say something about night vision because that’s not the answer but i i need to clarify something even though these two phytonutrients lutein and zeaxanthin are a um they’re phytonutrients they’re they’re in the family of vitamin a but they’re not related to vitamin a they’re not vitamin a like beta-carotene that type of thing they don’t turn into vitamin a different so you’re not going to have night vision but the two conditions are age-related macular degeneration which i need to explain what that is that’s a the back part of the eye you have the retina that’s the extension of your brain and the very center part of it you have the macula so the macula is just a small central point of that so the macula is part of the retina so when that degenerates these two nutrients can help slow that down okay and even potentially prevent it there’s a lot of great data i will release a video with the references on this and the next thing is the cataracts because the part of the eye that these two phytonutrients accumulate in is mostly the macula and the lens of the eye and the cataract is like a cloudy opaque uh part of the lens and that can that phenomena can be prevented with these two as well so that’s good to know isn’t it there you have it cataracts and age-related macular degeneration so now i’m sure people asking like work what foods are high in that right i was just going to ask that i picked it up do you have any ideas yellow peppers okay so yes yes it does come from vegetables leafy greens for sure but those are not the best bioavailability but you can still get some if you add some eggs thank you egg yolks egg yolks but we eat the whole egg yep not just the yolk egg yolks have probably one of the best sources but you can also get it in other things that have a similar pigment which is like the shrimp lobster salmon pink salmon that pigment but i’d stick with the egg yolks if i were you now say something about egg yolks and egg like eating the whole egg for people who are new i see people on here that are saying it’s their first time and why would you recommend the whole egg versus like egg white a great majority of the nutrition is in the egg yolk it’s not in the egg white now you’re saying what about cholesterol the egg yolk has about it’s five percent cholesterol so it does have cholesterol but the cholesterol is a very very healthy type of cholesterol it’s it’s it’s going to increase your hdl your good teeth good cholesterol it’s not gonna you don’t have to worry about it clogging up your arteries it’s not gonna happen plus there’s a lot of other things there’s um there’s certain nutrition that helps support your cell walls there’s certain nutrition in there that helps you prevent a fatty liver like choline there’s all sorts of great fat soluble fatty acids in these eggs but definitely do pasture raised do organic and if you could get your own chickens that’s what we did and these chicken egg egg yolks are so much different aren’t they literally orange and you consume them and you’re like really satisfied like wow i’m not even i don’t even need to eat it as frequently so it’s a huge difference i’ll have to take a picture of like regular eggs you’d get versus that because i’m like wow they’re just like brilliant okay so so um so here’s a point i’m just observing here sometimes i just see comments i’m like okay um keto are there any organs that the keto diet would stress healthy keto yes which ones your fat cells it’s going to stress them it’s going to make them shrink and they don’t like that so it’s going to make them go bye-bye okay any others nope now in fact your brain and your heart tissue love ketones they prefer it as a fuel and what about the liver and kidney the liver does not use ketones as fuel it makes the ketones and i’ve done a video on that so they can watch that but no it’s not stressful in any part of your body ketones are a clean fuel they provide more oxygen less co2 um they’re they they act as an antioxidant um they’re good for your blood sugars the reverse of that is glucose fuel which stresses and destroys four tissues in the body the eye the kidney the nervous system and including the brain in the heart and the vessels other than that doesn’t do anything but those are the main things that it’ll destroy hey deborah you’re from um hawaii uh pohawa hawaii right am i did i right paul you’re doing it okay great great you had a question go ahead well i’m a bit nervous this morning talking with you and dr berg um first off i want to warn you and i’m i’m a pretty big mom and um i read things like applied protomorphology by dr royally yeah even though i can barely understand it yeah um so um anyway a couple of months ago i started i discovered through youtube town i started i’ve probably listened to a couple hundred videos and in my mind i started rearranging things that you said in different videos and what i came up with was um an articulation for what autoimmune disease is and what causes it so i wanted to tell you what i think i learned from you and get your comments since you know they say the cause of autoimmune systems are you okay with that yeah okay so um a quick story for people listening who may not know this if you put a piece of live heart tissue in a petri dish and you keep it a lot you can keep it away for years and then one day if you start adding the cellular dna from a liver tissue to the disc the heart tissue will transform into liver tissue so keep that in mind as i continue so first off um the term autoimmune is a misnomer as i understand it my understanding is put most orderly by holding that the body does not have an immune system but rather it is an immune system with its first line of defense being the digestion the second line of defense being the liver and the third line of defense being the endocrine system so the disorder would be renamed an autoallergic disease i’ll call it aad expressed as what i’m calling leaky sac syndrome so i understand the cause of all diseases to come from four sources which is injury malnutrition poisoning and mental duress so the causes of add um would be number one injury to the facts that hold the body liver juices near the liver the body’s heart juices near the heart the thyroid juices by the thyroid etc or number two malnutrition specifically vitamin c deficiency causing said facts to leak thus triggering the autoallergic response because the blueprints to recreate the thyroid are as welcomed hanging out around the liver as the blueprint for causing a pig pig’s hoof is welcomed hanging out in your big toe so deborah deborah i think what might be a really great idea is to even do maybe a a video with you and just kind of go into this a little bit more because um have a ton of questions for people are waiting but um this is a fascinating topic and i would love to kind of wrap my wits around it and talk to you about that so we could probably do that on an actual video um because it because it does go into the woods a little bit and we have to explain everything but um would that be okay if we do another video at another time and talk about this because it’s definitely an interesting topic but i have a lot of callers just waiting and this show is just meant for just quick questions and deborah we’re going to keep your number so that the doctor can contact you uh for that video wow that would be fun yeah let’s do that and then we’ll talk more okay okay awesome thank you thank you very much appreciate it sure no problem okay so now um smart susan viewers yeah absolutely susan you’re from british columbia canada what’s your question my question is regarding to my 85 year old mother uh they did the scope on her and she has irritation in her stomach but she’s had h pylori and she always complains about pain and they’re giving her anti-acid and she now i think it’s it’s like a lack of acid yes that makes sense what i would do susan is the best thing to do as someone ages they lose their stomach acid so if you were to give them betaine hydrochloride apple cider vinegar it’d be very very very good because now not only can they absorb minerals but they’re able to digest proteins break down the amino acids and then start replacing the body tissue that they need also it’s going to kill off any microbes coming through but i think that would be a place that i would start for sure and in the meantime one of the best foods that you can recommend to your mother would be um well one would be of course keto but make but also um cabbage sauerkraut also coleslaw is just really really easy to digest if you have stomach problems or you have gastritis so check that out thanks for your call susan karen yeah you have a question i do have a quiz i knew you did okay so what is the best way to cook those eggs we were talking about to preserve those two phytonutrients lutein and zeaxanthin can you say that one more time lutein and zealousness okay so what what’s the best way to cook an egg or prepare an egg to preserve those two uh nutrients that we talked about okay that’s the question does that make sense uh yes okay i’m gonna can i guess not yet because we’re asking a question for everyone you can guess later okay okay karen yeah do you have a a question that you can ask me yes but now all the answers are flooding in uh okay tell you what yeah you find some questions i’m gonna go to the gym i have one from earlier um someone with severe autoimmune speaking of autoimmune would a prolonged carnivore diet help and how long could you do a diet like that well um the i think i do recommend the carnivore diet if you have digestive issues especially if you have sibo and things like that um the couple problems that come up when you do the carnivore it’s like um you’re you’re doing a lot of protein okay so and you’re also and there’s a right way to do it like adding more um not you’re not just eating steak every day you’re actually adding organ meats and things like that but i just my viewpoint is the sooner or later you’re gonna have to feed your microbes now they will live on other things but i’ve noticed with some people that do just carnivore for a long term is they end up with like constipation they might end up with hemorrhoids things like that i think that relates to the microbiome there’s a lot of benefits to certain vegetables if you can digest them so long-term i mean try it out and see how you do but i i i found something that seems to work very very well with the majority of population so i’m not changing it it’s the healthy version of keto it’s a combination of the plants and the proteins as well so you’d want to use carnivore like for a certain purpose and then maybe go to add slowly add some greens in there so that’s all i’m going to say karen i know it stirs up some disagreement with some people and but that’s just my viewpoint and then well and you know people ask questions based on what’s specifically happening with them so you could have somebody who um like me i do better with just a little bit of protein right and a lot more vegetable and not always raw vegetables sometimes steamed vegetable depending on what’s happening with my body you have other people who who can’t do all those greens and they have to do carnivores so yeah if you have if you have a history of like autoimmune stuff and your whole gut is destroyed and the minute that you consume vegetables you just it puts you in arthritis be a carnivore for the rest of your life i mean that that’s what you need to do but you just you know test the waters and see what works for you um because what what i’m saying may not work 100 of the time you’re right karen okay okay okay so uh we have the answer here on the egg question do you want to repeat the question what’s the best way to prepare an egg for maximum absorption of these of lutein and zeaxanthin okay so most people agreed with they said it many different ways but agreed with my answer and i’m from pennsylvania raised around pennsylvania dutch and we call this a dippy egg a dippy egg okay which is a soft yellow whether it’s soft boiled sunny side up over very easy dippy yeah so it really boils down to this one concept and this is this is the data you need to know yeah heat destroys these phytonutrients so the runny eggs the poached eggs the dippy eggs dippy eggs um now let’s say you scramble them try not to overcook them let’s say you boil them try not to over boil them the point if the point is that heat destroys the phytonutrients so the less heat the better now do i recommend raw eggs no because the when you do raw whites it depletes your biotin so you end up with a biotin deficiency if you do that that’s a big question about that so a lot of people talk about salmonella how prevalent is that in raw eggs because there’s a lot of people that eat of weight lifters stir them up in their juice i’ve done it before you know i’ve never really even heard of anyone having uh contracting that if they’re doing a high quality and egg i think that comes from uh factory farming and the amount of you know it’s not very clean so it really has to do with your the quality of what the animals are eating and their environment so it could happen maybe it’s happened but i i do right well i’ve had a lot of raw eggs in various forms and i’ve never gotten sick yeah there you have it steve answered his own question that’s right um okay good so i have some more questions but let’s see do you do you want me to go to a call or do you have a um yeah someone says uh eggs don’t have phytonutrients well what happens that the carotenoids are classified as a phytonutrient but that chemical also that carotenoids can come from animal base as well but they are called one name of them is called phytonutrients if you look them up even though they’re not from a plant they’re also um there’s many different names for them but i wanted to kind of keep it simple there you go okay okay good okay hey jane you’re from new york city go ahead you had a question are you there jane are you there you had a question about coming jane boron is it good or janie jamie okay i’ll let that question i will let um terry see if she can get uh get a hold of her the question was boron is it good for knee pain i did a video on this and yes it is there’s nothing boring about boron it’s a very very exciting trace mineral but it’s really good for knee pain but it’s also another really good thing for knee pain is vitamin k2 it tends to help mobilize and take away little types of calcium deposits from the joint and it seems to help so something to take in addition to vitamin d3 together because that will drop inflammation as well all right jonah is calling from indiana are you there yes i’m here hi hi dr thanks for taking my call uh i have two quick questions uh and first one i have gastritis almighty author and my nutritionist gave me pituitary pmg and it seems helps and i want to know what’s the relationship between peter trojan pmg and sonic this is my third question okay and second second question uh my eyes hurting like bruises or sometimes very rare like sharp pain in the eyes and he gave me this swell but it it doesn’t seem uh help so far it didn’t help so far okay so first question is she’s taking a product called pituitary uh it’s a i think it’s called pituitary pmg that’s a standard process product i used to recommend it it’s um it’s great it’s um it supports the pituitary gland there’s a lot of different things in that pituitary that are being produced that are hormones that are sent down to the body that definitely could affect the stomach for sure i mean there’s a lot i mean you have uh ones that affect the adrenal the thyroid the kidney the gonads so who knows what in there is helping you but it is helping and it’s a good product to support the pituitary if you have gastritis i would definitely um you know and also your eye pain i think what i would recommend i would first make sure that you’re doing the healthy version of keto because if you have eye pain it could be something that can be resolved if you do that a lot of times eye pain comes from an old eye injury that’s being reactivated in which case fasting is going to be the thing you need to do to drop inflammation and healthy keto can help there’s one product that i really like for if you have i if you have past eye injury that can end up down like later in life as kind of inflammatory thing it’s called iplex and it’s a standard process product i really like it and you can take that take one before bed and i think that’s really good for injury to the eye all right good question you have a question on facebook brendan fasting makes me hungry yes situation but you know what though ride it right you know what though do you know that it will but eventually the hunger goes away after about 45 days no just kidding um but initially fasting will make you hungry but there’s a point where your body’s converted over to living off your fact the land right to eat your own fat and you’ll get over it all right karen next question go ahead christina wants to know what is the healthy version of keto would you have the book no i don’t have my book but it’s it’s right on my website dr burke.com that is that is the technology the healthy keto plan uh that dr berg teaches so there’s a book there’s a smaller booklet there’s tons of videos there’s free courses on doctorberg.com all about keto but his research on what he’s he’s coined the healthy keto diet because you can find all kinds of things on the internet it doesn’t all work and if you have been doing keto and you’re having losses it’s probably because you’re doing something other than the healthy keto diet and there’s there’s the plug and let me put up exhibit a berg and karenberg i mean if you see them up close they are beautiful people they have a full head of hair their skin looks great they don’t look their age i’m not going to cheat tell them how old they are but they look a lot younger than me well that’s because they are but anyway i digress but look at look at them put them back up there i mean i i don’t i don’t look i don’t know 39 she’s 35 i’m 39. i mean that’s pretty good that’s really good no you guys look great if just you know if if they didn’t look the way they did then you might suggest that there’s some version of keto that doesn’t work but theirs obviously works well that’s very nice steve thanks steve and i’ll give you that twenty dollars a little bit later i’m toss it under this way question that i had i was about to ask a question oh right um and the question is this what is the best way to prepare those vegetables to maximize your phytonutrients oh these are too easy really usually you ask really like mine benders i just figured i want to keep it easy everybody’s going to know the answer to that these guys are brilliant do you hear the questions that they’re asking you what is the best way you guys answer the question and then we’ll we’ll we’ll definitely go on to the next topic which is pre-pee from india hydra hydro hello hi how are you hey dr bird namaste from india i am so glad that i’m talking to you i am really in shock or surprise whatever you may call it that i could get through this call i think my determination was i think to the highest level and that’s why the first try i have been able to reach you great i have recently written on your uh recent video also uh asking for requesting for a video on uterine fibroids i think this is the problem many women in the world are suffering from uh of a very very young age where mostly what is suggestive is like nothing and when it gets worse it’s a hysterectomy that is suggested so i really want answers from you for this question for myself and all the women suffering from heavy periods anemia and all sorts of issues because of this uterine fibroid so what i have is bulky uterus and diverted intramural fibroids and from the last two months i’m getting uh heavy clots is it because i’m changing my diet i’m i’m following a very low carb diet now and i think i also have high insulin symptoms uh plus i’m very skinny i’m just keeping my garden out i’m very skinny i think um i’m quite underweight and throughout i’ve been underweight like 43 kgs were a five feet two five feet three height so i’m very skinny so it’s not about losing weight that will help me you know with all these problems so it’s it’s a very you know challenging situation it’s weight loss can’t be done so it’s very difficult and i also have uh recently developed brain fog so it’s very confusing is it the insulin is it the losing blood every month or how to replenish the plants with like so here’s here’s what you can do okay get some paper out the pen uh fibroids okay and i actually have done some videos on this i can do some more but um there’s insulin is an anabolic hormone it makes things grow so you want to keep your insulin low by doing the car uh two things keto and of course the fasting i would do periodic prolonged fasting the problem is you don’t want to lose any more weight so you’re going to have to do it periodically and then intermittently because that is going to start to start to shrink things but you want to avoid dairy all forms of dairy if you have fibroids you want to avoid soy because typically what’s happening your estrogen dominant i think the cruciferous vegetables are going to be your best bet because that tends to help inhibit blood vessels new blood vessels into the fibroid and just eat really really organic foods because if you’re doing gmo that could be another culprit so that’s what i would do very simply but i will create another video on that but thanks for calling from india all right what do we have do we have some answers on this question that i just gave people yes the number one answer is raw or lightly steamed but one person and i’m curious to see your answer said fermented yeah well guess what all you guys are right typically the raw is going to be the best now to release these phytonutrients sometimes from the fiber you have to chew them you can’t swallow them right when you chew them you break it up and you release them now but here’s the here’s the here’s the twist on this um these phyto these carotenoids are fat soluble so that means that they’re going to be greatly improved as far as their availability when you add fat to the vegetable as in olive oil or butter now if you slightly steam them make sure you put butter or olive oil in there too because that will also help break them up fermented is another way to increase the bioavailability so now there’s some there’s one research study that you know and i i couldn’t find anything other than this one which showed that if you’re consuming carrots which you know you could have a little carrot to pull out those that beta-carotene you’re going to steam them and you’re going to pull out more but i couldn’t find any other data other than that but i did find some data on raw so do it raw add some salad dressing and or a stick of butter when you’re chewing your salad that was a sarcasm but you could do it butter on your salad melted butter maybe what about what about this what about peanut butter with your celery how about that know me okay contract doctor yeah okay hey taylor you’re from calling from kentucky are you there yes hi hi um i was just calling because i have epilepsy that is not responsive to drugs and i’ve been on keto for a few months and it hasn’t really done anything i was wondering if i need to be more intense like maybe full blown um uh carnivore um i’ve also been doing the 16 8 fasting so or maybe maybe some additional um vitamins i should possibly be taking yeah like what do you recommend for epilepsy and keto okay so here’s the thing you need to know the um obviously there’s a um circuitry damage situation happening in the brain and so when you do ketones it’s very very beneficial for those people who don’t respond to drugs and other people as well for epilepsy so i think that you’re on the right track um honestly though i think you’re going to have to go to 20 and four like you’re going to have to go longer with your fasting with a four-hour window because not only is keto going to help you with ketones but also fasting is going to really bring your ketones way higher and feeding the brain now in addition to both of those actions the key is the ketones ketones feeding the brain and so one one additional thing you can do as the icing on the cake no pun intended you can add mct oil every single day maybe twice a day to this whole mix so you’re doing a 20 and four low carb try to get the carbs really really low and mct oil all three of those actions i think would be a really good plan for you and then just give it a little bit of time there’s some other things you can do too to support the brain one is vitamin b1 from nutritional yeast a lot more of that and vitamin d both of those as well as zinc actually all three of those are really good for helping restore the brain function there’s more there’s additional things too like omega-3 fatty acids um but anything you can do to support the brain is going to be a good good thing but thanks for your call i’m ready for your question karen well i have an idea that i want to throw out here yes okay so we do these cooking videos right yep um so i thought why not ask this crowd right if you have an amazing keto recipe that is six ingredients or less because we like it really simple six ingredients or less email it to dr berg dr berg.com we’ll accumulate them and we can do some of them on on the cooking channel and we’ll give you a shout out brilliant brilliant now it has to be completely keto um six ingredients or less i know favorite recipes i know a lot of these a lot of these um participants have these great recipes so i want to just pick you know the stuff that we learned from you guys is incredible i mean i’m just i read a lot of the comments and i’m like wow that’s a great idea oh my gosh i’ve never heard of that before so it’s such a great learning experience a two-way learning experience here yeah awesome good good idea here’s another question karen for people what is the most common nutrient deficiency in the elderly okay now that’s a good question we got one good question we got one good question of today but that makes me go now while you’re chewing on that let’s go to sultan from saudi arabia ah he’s back are you there hi hi hi kev hi hi uh i would like to thank you first about your peanut butter dessert it’s actually dangerously yummy it’s amazing it’s my god to a dessert yeah my question is i’d like to ask about trace minerals their importance and are there maybe do you recommend any tests for maybe some important ones like boron or manganese or some of these test minerals and does your wheatgrass juice products provide with enough trace mirrors that need to supplement or is it like more of a maintenance and one and the last thing is about 12 week acid carbon humic acid would you recommend them are they good yeah what was the second question about the peanut butter is it made out of valencia peanuts or oh yes yes organic valencia yeah that’s the best yeah yep okay good good question um as far as the best test for trace minerals honestly i think uh i would do a a credible hair analysis i know some of you are like oh my hair analysis is not valid well yeah it gives you a lot of great data on what’s going on with the entire body but it’s there’s this little delay in your hair because it takes so many months for it to grow so what you’re looking at in the hair um is in the really in the past so you it’s not really perfect for like right now but it’ll tell you what you you know two or three months ago what your diet was like but there’s also another test it’s an intracellular test it’s a but it’s not for trace minerals it’s for just minerals magnesium potassium they might do some other trace minerals in there but if you were to do the intracellular test i’ll have to hmm i’ll tell you what i’ll when i get home i’ll put it in the in the comments section below on this video but there’s a there’s a company that will do this test and it’s great because you can pick up the the information that’s inside your cells especially potassium magnesium and that’s very very important to prevent arrhythmias now fulvic acid uh you mentioned about that humic acid those are incredible um compounds that will support your digestive system i’m going to do a video on it i highly recommend consuming those because it’s like even like takes it one step further it’s in addition to the probiotic it’s not necessarily a probiotic but it actually supports your digestive system good question all right your wheatgrass your father does it provide any trace minerals since it’s grown in an ancient seabed uh yes there’s there’s some really powerful uh trace minerals in the um in the in the wheatgrass juice powder that i have but you’re also getting the quality is so high like you’re also getting the mass amount of phytonutrients especially the carotenoids so that’s really good for your eyes and the brain because these phytonutrients i told you that most of them accumulate in your eye but they also go to certain parts of your brain as well so that’s really cool um and so there’s a lot of other benefits but um it’s not necessarily the wheatgrass juice powder is not necessarily a trace mineral product but it has it in there because it’s grown for many many months through the winter and so this the roots go deep into the earth and extract these minerals break it down absorb it into the grass it’s so high quality because if you go to the health food store and get it from a tray and you’re growing a sponge you’re not going to get that all right karen um yeah should we choose your train yep all right what do we have ask the question again what is the most common nutrient deficiency in the elderly okay so we have a lot of answers um vitamin d k2 protein potassium zinc calcium so all right the answer is vitamin d now why why why is that well first of all you as you age your skin changes and you cannot now absorb the vitamin d from the sun so you’d have to literally stay out in the sun and have a good portion of your body exposed to the sun for many hours to get your dosage you can’t get it from your food and if you have any health problems you’re not going to absorb it too and if you have digestive problems so there’s a lot of barriers so you’re going to have if you are old you need to take vitamin d if you’re older older and if you have older grandparents or parents no i’m thinking to myself i was looking over there steve if you’re old if you’re old like steve you get older you need to be more aware of your d intake how’s that just politically correct you need to basically um also um you know make sure your your parents and your grandparents are taking vitamin d it it handles so many issues so it’s anti-inflammatory it’s goes all over the place so uh also 20 000 ius a day for mr steve that’s what i do dr bergs d3 and k2 thank you zinc is another one that is a very important one and of course b1 there’s the list goes on and on but in b12 but vitamin d is the number one but i i tell you what karen yeah i’ll do a video on that how about that do a video on that okay so sandra calling from florida are you there yes thank you dr bird um the first thing i just want to thank you because i had tried everything to try to lose weight and nothing ever and with the keto diet i lost 50 pounds wow i kept it off so first of all i want to thank you and in the past it wasn’t that i didn’t try to try it just nothing was working so i do take a number of your products i am 50 i take the estrogen balance i do the minerals and i bought a host of other things along the way so i do want to thank you and i love your videos i i have had very dry lips and a very dry left elbow and i know i watched a video and i said eat eggs and i do and it works the only thing is as soon as i don’t eat eggs um it comes right back like almost the next day so i just don’t know if you would know what maybe an underlying problem could be i love eggs and i eat you know i ate very strict keto i do i can’t get seven cups of salad in but i do three three cups because i only eat once a day and i eat three or four eggs just because of the dryness and i try to eat maybe three ounces of meat or bone broth whichever one i can fit in all of its organic grass-fed etc so i’m very strict but i just the two problems i see was the very dry lips and the dry elbow and then a second issue is my kidneys two or three times in the last few years will act up so i just i just don’t know and your kidneys act up as a stone or kidney stone no no pain pain like i’ll like say i’ll be at sea world and all of a sudden i feel like something’s coming on and i have to drink like a gallon of water just you know so i mean they may not even be related okay all right so i think i know what’s going on because i used to have this problem typically if you look this up it’s usually a b vitamin deficiency b2 or b3 which happens to be an x but it can also be an essential fatty acid like omega omega 3 fatty acid deficiency 2. that can crawl cause dry lips but it sounds like you’re consuming those so then it’s the more likely reason is you don’t have full capacity of bile salts to be able to pull in these fats and eggs the saturated fats and eggs really are good to stimulate the bile production because of the saturated fats so you may want to just take some bile support gallbladder formula and take that on an empty stomach just to increase your availability of these fats and i think that’s what’s going to help and by the way because bile is related to your gall bladder the symptoms from the gallbladder sometimes can be very similar to symptoms of the kidney kidney pain that wrap around the back or even the front it could feel like a kidney it could be gallbladder but if it is kidney the key is keeping your fluids up like two and a half liters of fluid a day and that will keep things kind of chilled out that’s kind of what i would that’s what i’m i would recommend sandra but thanks for your great success story appreciate it and then jan has been calling uh from new york city are you there jan janie hi dr bird hi janie oh i’m so glad thank you thank you for taking my call again i i don’t know what happened but my first thing i want to thank you and your customer service people are wonderful you got some magnificent people working for you oh thank you thank you i know that i appreciate that uh my question was with uh boron uh and because i have uh stiffness in my right knee i’ve been on keto actually for a year and i got off and stuff like that and i really got back on uh on july and so now from 305 i am now 285 wow and i’m doing well but i still have this stiffness in my right knee one of your videos was on uh taking boron for that for achy joints in the knee and i still keep reading in some of your comments that boron is borax what’s the difference from boron and borax like twenty mule team borax should i get that instead of getting boron i should probably do a longer video on this because running out of time but basically borax is uh used as a cleaning agent but you know honestly it’s they they get it from mining boron it’s a type of boron that some people do take and it does help them with various health conditions especially like microbial stuff it is a mineral i think the best thing to do i would take a trace mineral with maybe some just some boron as a supplement and take that just because you don’t really know if you’re taking borax and you don’t know if it’s like food grade whatever where they got it from but if you actually take in a supplement you might work out it might be better for that but boron is good for knee pain and so is k2 okay i have i have all your your uh k2 d3 and k2 vitamin i’m taking these okay do i need to up it up i want it because i i need to run and walk again sometimes i feel like i’m just dragging my leg i would take i would take four of those a day and take them with a meal in the morning or actually at lunch or your first meal and i think that should help you thanks janie all right on that note karen on that note ran at a time yeah we sure did overtime next time guys next time have a wonderful week and stay tuned for actually more videos i’m going to actually release more videos this week that’s right great you
