7:12 Can you heat garlic?

Today we’re going to talk about the amazing immune benefits of garlic—especially during the winter. Garlic has been used as a natural remedy for various conditions for thousands of years.

Garlic is even ranked at the top for having potent anticancer effects, according to data from a study on the effects of cancer prevention from vegetables.

Most of the data we’re covering is from in vitro studies—not studies done on humans.

These studies found that garlic has the potential to kill:
• E. coli
• MRSA
• Anthrax

They found that garlic has a potent effect against:
• Viruses
• Fungi
• Parasites

They even found that just the odor of garlic may help kill bacteria.

Garlic also has the ability to bind with organophosphates from pesticides and detoxify them from the body. Organophosphates can have a devastating effect on the immune system—they can make you susceptible to getting sick. But, garlic can help detoxify them and protect your immune system.

Be sure to buy garlic that’s locally grown from a very good source. Fermented garlic and fermented black garlic both have incredible benefits as well. They actually have even more antioxidants and nutrients.

The important phytonutrients in garlic can survive temperatures that are 100 degrees Celsius or 212 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 20 minutes.

Can you get enough vitamin D from food? No, and I’m going to prove it.

It’s important to know that you can’t get the vitamin D you need from food.

I believe a good maintenance amount of vitamin D is 10,000IU. 10,000IU is not toxic, and there are specific reasons why you need that much. Check out my other videos on vitamin D for more information.

I want to share with you different foods that contain vitamin D, the quantity of vitamin D each of these foods contains, and how much of that specific food you would need to consume on a daily basis to achieve a good maintenance level of vitamin D (10,000IU).

3oz. Mackerel—1006IU—10 servings
3oz. Salmon (wild)—988IU—10 servings (30oz.)
1 cup Mushrooms (white)—732IU—14 cups
3oz. Trout—645IU—15 servings (42oz.)
3oz. Salmon (farm)—570IU—18 servings (54oz.)
1 tsp. Cod liver oil—448IU—22 tsp.
1 can Canned tuna—268IU—32 servings (129.5oz.)
3.5oz. Herring—216IU—46 servings (56oz.)
1 cup Yogurt—154IU—65 cups
3oz. Beef liver—42IU—238 servings (714oz.)
1 Egg yolk—37IU—270 eggs

While you should consume these foods, you shouldn’t rely on them for vitamin D. It would be better to get your vitamin D from the sun or a supplement.

Vitamin D is essential for a healthy gut microbiome—find out why!

1:42 Subclinical vitamin D deficiency

4:37 Share your success story!

In this video, we’re going to talk about vitamin D and your microbes.

Vitamin D is essential for feeding the healthy bacteria in your gut. In fact, gut microbes are dependent on the vitamin D you get from the sun or ingest.

Along with fiber, vitamin D helps support microbial diversity in your gut. Low vitamin D can throw off your microbiome ratios.

Supporting your microbiome with vitamin D is also crucial for normal levels of butyrate. Butyrate is the small-chain fatty acid that helps regulate your blood sugar levels, feed your colon cells, energize your body, and improve your insulin sensitivity.

Additionally, a poor microbiome caused by low vitamin D can contribute to a deficiency in B vitamins. This is because microbes are a primary source of many B vitamins.

The majority of the population has a subclinical vitamin D deficiency. Oftentimes, a subclinical deficiency isn’t detected in a blood test.

40% of people in the US and Europe have low vitamin D, and up to 85% of people in Arabic countries have low vitamin D.

Vitamin D deficiency can increase your risk of…
• Cancer
• Diabetes
• Heart attack
• Autoimmune disease
• IBD
• Allergies
• Asthma
• Dermatitis
• Regular colds
• Depression
• Weight gain

Vitamin D is essential for the integrity of your gut epithelium. Since 80% of your immune system resides in your gut, an issue with your gut wall (or even leaky gut) can cause serious immune problems. It may cause your immune system to attack your own healthy cells. This is why low vitamin D is associated with autoimmunity and inflammation.

It’s more difficult to maintain normal levels of vitamin D in the winter months. To help combat this, you can take at least 10,000IU of vitamin D daily.

Spirulina is an astronaut’s secret weapon. Here’s why you should use it too.

Timestamps
0:00 What is spirulina?
0:12 Why do astronauts take spirulina?
1:15 Spirulina benefits
2:02 Share your success story!

Today let’s talk about why astronauts use spirulina. Spirulina is a type of dark green algae that is super concentrated with all sorts of nutrients.

Astronauts have a unique problem. They have to prevent certain health issues, such as:
1. Bone density depletion
2. Muscular atrophy
3. Metabolic rate change
4. Loss of body mass
5. Cardiovascular breakdown
6. Decreased immune system

Astronauts have to carry food that is persevered, dehydrated, or freeze-dried. They are also in an environment where they are exposed to high amounts of radiation, and they have to artificially regulate the oxygen, CO2, and temperature in the environment.

NASA did a research project in the 70s that concluded that spirulina is one of the most powerful concentrated foods available to mankind for increased immune function and removing toxins. They also stated that the nutrient value of 1000kg of fruits and vegetables equates to 1kg of spirulina.

Benefits of spirulina:
• It’s loaded with potassium, calcium, magnesium, and beta carotene
• It has all 8 essential amino acids
• It’s a nutrient-dense superfood
• It has iron and folate (it has 6x more absorption than normal iron supplements)
• It has a lot of phytochemicals (can help remove toxins and improve immunity)

Playing in the dirt could support your health—find out why!

In this video, we’re going to talk about the necessity of germs.

Humans have coevolved with microbes for a very long time. Microbes have been on earth for much longer than humans have.

We have a beneficial relationship with many microbes—they give us certain things, and we give them a home to live in.

There’s something called the hygiene theory, which analyzes the benefits of microbes in early childhood for the resistance to diseases, allergies, and autoimmune conditions.

Microbes play an important part in building up immunity. This is why you should let your kids play in the dirt, and why kids who grow up in a sterile environment tend to experience more health issues.

Babies are born with the innate part of their immune system, which is received from the mother. However, there’s also the acquired immune system. At birth, this part of the immune system is a blank slate—it’s developed over time with exposure to microbes.

You have 100-trillion microbes growing inside your body and on your skin surface. Without a diverse microbiome, your body is more susceptible to harmful pathogens. This is why those who scrub their face too much can wipe out important flora and create more acne.

Conventional farming uses many chemicals that destroy important protective microbes. Going organic or growing your own food can help support a healthy microbiome.

Microbes are important for the nutritional content of plants. Plants supply carbohydrates to microbes, and microbes supply vitamins and minerals to plants.

Naturally grown plants have more nutrients and flavor compared to conventionally grown plants.

3:57 Share your success story!

Today we’re going to talk about how playing in the dirt can be beneficial for kids. More specifically, they should be playing in the soil.

The difference between dirt and soil:
1. Dirt is dead. This could be sand, rock, or clay.

2. Soil is living. It contains bacteria and fungus, which make nutrients available.

There are two parts of the immune system. There is the innate part, which you’re born with. Then there is the acquired part. The acquired part learns from the environment.

If a child is sick, I believe the best thing is to let the child go through the infection while providing them with key nutrients and allow them to build up antibodies.

There is a huge connection between the gut and the brain. There are a lot of microbes in the gut that play an important part in the immune system. The microbes work together to help keep pathogens from invading the body.

Potential benefits of children being outside more often than inside:
1. A decreased risk of asthma, allergies, and autoimmune issues

2. Less inflammation and respiratory illness

3. Improved mental health (both cognitive function and mood)

I want to increase your awareness of how antibiotics can affect children later in life. There is a very important link between what goes on in the digestive system and what happens in your brain.

You have close to 100 trillion microbes both inside and outside of the body, most of which live in your gut. If those microbes are altered in a certain way, it can create huge effects on your cognitive state and your emotional state.

Penicillin is the most commonly prescribed antibiotic for children. Antibiotics can change the type of microbes living in your gut, as well as the number of microbes and the ratios of microbes to fungus.

One big effect of an altered microbiome is an alteration of the gene expression of both the frontal cortex of the brain and the amygdala, which has a lot to do with fear responses and stress responses.

This could affect your memory and put you in a fear state (anxiety) and a stress state (high cortisol). So, antibiotics early in life could potentially affect a child’s cognitive and emotional state later in life.

In other videos, I also talk about how it can affect the immune system, increase the risk of allergies and asthma, and slow down metabolism.

Antibiotics given to children can potentially increase the risk of certain things later in life, such as:
• Depression
• Autism
• Anxiety
• ADHD

What you can do:
• Be sure the antibiotics are necessary
• Make sure the child doesn’t consume foods that contain antibiotics (buy foods that are organic, grass-fed, and antibiotic-free)
• If the child has to take an antibiotic, make sure they also take a probiotic at the same time, and after they stop taking the antibiotic
• Allow the child’s immune system to learn from the environment
• Keep key nutrients high (zinc, calcium, and vitamin D)
