In this video, we’re going to talk about a question I got from a viewer: can a product with dextrose still be keto-friendly?

The answer is: maybe! It depends on how much dextrose is in the product. Small amounts might be okay, but large amounts can kick you out of ketosis.

On Healthy Keto, you want to only consume carbohydrates that are low on the glycemic index. Low-glycemic carbs are carbs that do not cause a sharp spike in your blood sugar levels.

The essence of the keto diet is to lower your carbohydrates to keep your blood sugar and insulin levels normalized. You can do this by consuming less than 50 grams of carbs per day.

Even if you’re having plenty of fat and moderate protein, your body won’t go into ketosis without keeping your carbs very low. Ideally, you should keep your carbs below 30 grams per day on Healthy Keto.

A single bagel has 48 grams of net carbs (50g carbs – 2g fiber = 48g net carbs).

Without fiber, your blood sugar levels spike much more quickly. The lower the fiber, the higher a food is on the glycemic index.

A raw potato, while full of carbs, will not spike your blood sugar levels as quickly as cooked potatoes, chips, fries, or even a bagel. Heat and processing break down the starch and makes it more easily absorbed, which causes a faster spike in blood sugars.

Here are some ingredients you should avoid in products marketed as “keto-friendly.”
• Dextrose
• Maltodextrin
• IMO (isomaltooligosaccharides)
• Corn syrup
• Sugar (including raw sugar)
• Tapioca
• Fructose
• Coconut sugar
• Agave nectar
• Honey
• Maple syrup
• Molasses

Today we’re going to talk about how playing in the dirt can be beneficial for kids. More specifically, they should be playing in the soil.

The difference between dirt and soil:
1. Dirt is dead. This could be sand, rock, or clay.

2. Soil is living. It contains bacteria and fungus, which make nutrients available.

There are two parts of the immune system. There is the innate part, which you’re born with. Then there is the acquired part. The acquired part learns from the environment.

If a child is sick, I believe the best thing is to let the child go through the infection while providing them with key nutrients and allow them to build up antibodies.

There is a huge connection between the gut and the brain. There are a lot of microbes in the gut that play an important part in the immune system. The microbes work together to help keep pathogens from invading the body.

Potential benefits of children being outside more often than inside:
1. A decreased risk of asthma, allergies, and autoimmune issues

2. Less inflammation and respiratory illness

3. Improved mental health (both cognitive function and mood)

3:45 Share your success story!

Let’s talk about EMF exposure. The average person in the U.S. is exposed to EMFs for over 10 hours a day.

People are exposed to EMFs through:
• Smartphones
• Computers
• Laptops
• WIFI
• Routers
• Microwaves
• And more…

These devices put out invisible electromagnetic fields that interact with the body’s electrical fields in the brain, heart, and deep into the cells. Experts will say that EMFs have no negative impacts on your health. But, a report put out in 2012 evaluated 2000 studies, and it found that low-level radiation can play a role in Alzheimer’s and other conditions.

EMF exposure may play a role in:
• High blood pressure
• High pulse rate
• Insomnia
• Fatigue
• Decreased cognitive function (memory, focus, and concentration)
• Increased inflammation
• Mood changes
• Increased risk of stroke
• Increased risk of heart attack
• DNA damage

These EMF energy waves directly affect the communication channels across all of your cellular membranes.

What you could do:
1. Limit exposure (use an EMF tester)
2. Keep your cell phone and other devices away from your head
3. Increase your antioxidant network (consume raw cruciferous vegetables and do fasting)

Some people believe cancer can’t live in an alkaline body. But is this true?

There are research papers out there that show that acid environments can help cancer grow. But, there are also no studies that show that alkalizing the body will prevent or cure cancer. If someone says that they have data that says otherwise, read it and see what it says.

There is a condition called metabolic alkalosis. This is a condition where your body is too alkaline.

Symptoms of metabolic alkalosis:
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Hand tremors
• Muscle twitching
• Tingling face
• Confusion

It’s important for the body not to be too alkaline or too acidic. You achieve the optimum pH by eating healthy—not by consuming things that are too alkaline or too acid.

Mitochondrial damage is what can cause cancer. Vegetables are alkaline, but that’s not why they may be good for cancer patients. Vegetables contain very powerful anti-cancer properties.

Certain parts of the body shouldn’t be alkalized. But, all you need to do is eat healthy so your body can adjust the pH where it needs to be.

In this video, we’re going to talk about low blood pressure and POTS.

POTS stands for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. This is a condition where your blood pressure drops when you go from lying down to standing up. It also causes your heart rate to increase.

Symptoms of POTS include:
• Dizziness
• Lightheadedness
• Fatigue
• Nausea
• Blurred vision
• Loss of vision
• Shakiness
• Fainting

Your blood pressure should normally be around 120 (systolic)/80 (diastolic). Hypotension is when your blood pressure level is below 90 (systolic)/60 (diastolic).

As a side note, when people go into shock, this causes your blood pressure to lower. Shock can be caused by being overheated, overtraining, or taking certain medications.

What causes POTS? There are several possibilities.

1. Not enough blood in your body:
• Internal bleeding
• Anemia (often due to low iron)
• Low sodium and dehydration
• Diuretics
• Vomiting and diarrhea

Those on a Healthy Keto diet often lose a lot of sodium at first. To counteract this, you can consume more salt.

2. Autonomic nervous system dysfunction:
• Adrenal issues
• Vitamin B1 deficiencies
• Can be caused by defined carbs, sulfites, malabsorption, keto, and stress
• Vitamin D deficiency

If you have low blood pressure or POTS, the best things to do are:
• Increase sodium
• Get more vitamin B1
• Take vitamin D3

In this video, we’re going to talk about a compound called EDTA.

EDTA is a chelator. Chelators help bind to and remove certain metals and minerals, like calcium, iron, magnesium, mercury, and lead.

If you have too much of a metal or mineral, like mercury, you can use EDTA to lower it.

However, EDTA will also lower the minerals you need in your body. So it’s important that you replace any minerals that you need using a supplement or by consuming mineral-rich foods.

If you don’t replace the minerals your body needs, you may experience side effects such as:
• Arrhythmias
• Hypocalcemia
• Hypotension
• Prolonged bleeding
• Cramps

In summary, you can use EDTA to take out metals and minerals that you have too much of, as long as you also put back the minerals you need.

EDTA has many health benefits. It…
1. Helps decalcify arteries
2. Reduces biofilms (these can protect harmful microbes)
3. Reduces ROS (oxidation)
4. Reduces high blood pressure
5. Reduces high iron
6. Reduces high calcium
7. Reduces high copper

Make sure you check with your doctor before taking EDTA—especially if you have a preexisting condition, like heart disease.

Let’s talk about curcumin. Curcumin is the main polyphenol or phytonutrient in the spice turmeric.

Benefits of curcumin:
• It has powerful antioxidant properties
• It’s a powerful anti-inflammatory
• It can be effective for exercise-induced inflammation
• It may help with muscle soreness
• It may help with exercise recovery
• It may help with arthritis
• It may help with anxiety
• It has been shown to be effective for metabolic syndrome
• It may be effective for degenerative eye conditions

The only problem is that curcumin doesn’t absorb well in the body. It’s fat-soluble, which means unless you take it in a certain way, you probably won’t absorb much of it.

How to increase the absorption of curcumin:
1. Take it with piperine (black pepper)
2. Take it with fat
3. Heat it slightly

There are enzymes that help perform many different functions. They’re proteins that are involved in all of the biochemical pathways in the body.

CoQ10 is found in every single cell in the body. It’s a very powerful antioxidant, but its main job is to stabilize membranes, especially in areas of your body where you’re generating a lot of energy. The membrane around the mitochondria (the energy factory) needs CoQ10. Lipoprotein membranes, as in HDL and LDL, also need CoQ10.

When you’re generating a lot of energy, you’re also generating a lot of free radical damage and oxidation. CoQ10 helps to counter that.

Statins block CoQ10. Blocking this enzyme can create a lot of side effects, especially muscle damage. If you’re taking a statin, you may also want to take CoQ10.

If you have any nutritional deficiencies, you may also be deficient in CoQ10 because it sets you up for not creating CoQ10. If you have inflammatory conditions, you may also want to take CoQ10.

What is CoQ10 good for?
• It can help support the heart
• It may be good for athletes that generate a lot of oxidation
• It may be good for people who have migraines or headaches
• It may be good for people who have inflammation
• It may be good for people who take a lot of medication
• It could potentially help protect against cancer

In this video, we’re going to talk about what to do if you can’t get your ketones high enough.

If you’re running into a situation where you only see trace amounts of ketones, this video is for you.

Here are five things you need to know when increasing your ketone levels.

1. It takes time – If you just started on keto, you will need to give it some time before you fully switch over to ketosis. Your mitochondria do not fully adapt to ketosis right away. It can take around one month to become fully keto-adapted.

2. Use the right test – Testing your ketones can be a great way to figure out where you’re at in your keto-adaptation. At first, you can use urine ketone tests. However, as your body adapts to ketosis, it will naturally become more efficient at burning ketones, leaving you with little to no ketones in your urine. At this point, you want to use a blood ketone test.

3. Keep your protein intake in check – Having more than 8 oz of protein per meal may spike your insulin levels high enough to slow down ketosis. Make sure you increase your fat to protein ratio and have around 3-6 oz of protein per meal. Sausage, olives, olive oil, fatty fish, fatty cheese, pecans, macadamia nuts, butter, cod liver oil, stew, and sardines are great foods for increasing your fat to protein ratio.

4. Stress – High stress levels can have similar effects as sugar. Stress can trigger cortisol and lower your ketones.

5. Lack of sleep – Not getting enough high-quality sleep can throw off your blood sugar levels and limit your ability to get into ketosis.
