Let’s talk about exercise vs. fasting when it comes to triggering autophagy. Autophagy is a condition. It’s the recycling of old worn-out cell parts. It’s a condition that’s very good for the body.

Autophagy is all about anti-aging. When we age, we have a deficiency of autophagy. Autophagy is also very deficient in chronic disease states. So, it’s very important to know how to trigger autophagy.

The suppression of glucose with the increase of ketones is what triggers autophagy. This is why fasting is probably the most potent thing to trigger autophagy.

But, exercise can also trigger autophagy. Exercise forces the body to use up glucose, and it helps increase insulin sensitivity. When you exercise, you lower insulin. When insulin becomes too high, it can knock you out of autophagy. It can be very beneficial to exercise while fasting because you have a compounding effect.

The autophagy that’s created when you exercise will only last until the next time you eat. Compared to if you fast for 48 hours, you’re getting a massive amount of autophagy.

When it comes to exercise, the amount of autophagy you’re going to get is going to be related to the intensity and the volume of exercise you do. A strong, resistant type workout with high intensity and a good amount of volume can give you more autophagy. But, a low-intense endurance type workout while fasting can enhance the autophagy you’re getting from fasting.

In this video, I’m going to talk about how you can increase your autophagy with coffee and herbs. Autophagy means “self-eat.” This is the state in which your body begins to recycle damaged proteins and pathogens.

When proteins become damaged, they can wreak havoc on your body. To prevent this harm, your body breaks down damaged proteins with enzymes and creates new healthy proteins.

Autophagy is vital for:
• Reducing inflammation
• Increasing your lifespan and health
• Preventing cancer
• Slowing the aging process

There are several ways you can promote autophagy naturally:

1. Fasting – Fasting is a fantastic way to induce autophagy. It’s my opinion that fasting for 16-18 hours is ideal for autophagy—although few studies show an exact length of time for peak autophagy.

2. Exercise – Exercise is another excellent way to promote autophagy.

3. Coffee – Drinking coffee may help induce autophagy to some degree. I don’t recommend having much more than one cup of coffee each day. Way too much caffeine will affect your sleep, which can actually reduce autophagy.

4. Sulforaphane – This compound is a phytochemical that has health-protecting effects, including the ability to induce autophagy. You can get sulforaphane from fresh cruciferous vegetables or cruciferous supplements. You should be consuming plenty of vegetables (7-10 cups) every day.

5. Green tea (EGCG) – EGCG, or epigallocatechin gallate, is a powerful autophagy-inducing compound found in green tea. Additionally, EGCG is great for reducing inflammation and fighting off cancer cells.

6. Curcumin – Curcumin is a potent autophagy-promoting compound found in turmeric. Turmeric is often found in Indian foods like curry.

7. Resveratrol – This compound is primarily found in the skin of black grapes and red wine. Resveratrol has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and autophagy-promoting properties.

benefit of autophagy and this is gonna surprise you now if you’re not familiar
with the autophagy is a condition where your body is recycling damaged or
old and not needed proteins in the body I’m not talking just about hair and
muscle I’m talking about those little enzyme protein machines that do the work
of the body those are the things that make body tissue and they’re at the
cellular level when those are damaged autophagy is a system to clean those out
of the body and recycle them okay so autophagy decreases the risk of chronic
disease at autophagy will help recycle protein as a survival mechanism for
example one of the triggers for autophagy is fasting so that would be kind of a
similar thing to starvation so the body kicks in this mechanism to help become
more efficient so as to survive longer so it’ll take the protein it doesn’t
need recycle it into new tissue and even use it as fuel also the autophagy can help
reduce pathogens in the body and it protects the neurons as a survival
mechanism the heart cells and it gets rid of what’s called advanced glycation
end-products which basically means like sticky proteins that clog things up as
well as plaquing in the brain so it cleans up all this damaged protein in
the cells that’s what autophagy is but the most important function of autophagy
is anti-cancer so let me explain this now the difference between a normal cell
and a cancer cell has to do with this one thing and that has to do with this
in a normal cell you have respiration in the mitochondria what does that mean
well fuel is converted through a machine to make energy currency of the bodies
called ATP so you fuel like glucose that uses oxygen to
then be burned and that’s the energy currency of the body so in a normal cell
you have something called mitochondrial respiration the mitochondria is the
energy Factory and respiration has to do with breathing or oxygen okay so a
normal cell needs oxygen to generate fuel now in a cancer cell there’s damage
to this respiratory mechanism so this motor with a carburetor that uses oxygen
is broken okay there’s irreversible damage so what
happens when you damage that system as a survival mechanism this cell starts to
activate an ancient pathway that is able to ferment glucose which basically is a
way of breaking it down differently without the use of oxygen
now whether there’s oxygen or not that has nothing to do with it glucose
fermentation doesn’t necessarily need oxygen to make its energy so that is the
difference between a cancer cell and a normal cell normal cells use oxygen in
the respiratory center this is a fancy name for it right here and cancer cells
basically ferment glucose without oxygen one of the ways that they test for
cancer is through a PET scan and a PET scan
they are measuring extreme glucose consumption cancer cells are extremely
hungry for glucose they hog glucose more than normal cells and sometimes you will
starve than normal cells now just by knowing that simple fact right there why
would anyone want to consume a lot of glucose or sugar if they have cancer now
the other question asked is why is there damage in this part of the mitochondria
well my theory is that it has something to do with the DNA that gets damaged
because what’s unique about the mitochondria is that the mitochondria
has its own DNA hey it’s called mitochondria DNA versus
the DNA in the nucleus of the cell which is highly protective the DNA and the
mitochondria are much more prone to mutation or alteration because they’re
not as protected now the mitochondria can use the DNA from the nucleus of the
cell but it also has its own DNA and I think that’s really why it becomes
damaged because it’s simply not protected you cannot get cancer in your
body unless there’s damage to this respiratory part of the mitochondria
what does all this mean it means that autophagy has the ability to clean up this
damage in you mitochondria because these are protein machines these are enzymes
the protein damage in the mitochondria that causes the cells to shift can be
cleaned up by autophagy so that makes this benefit anti-cancer the most
important benefit of autophagy now there are two videos you need to watch now you

Today we’re going to talk about the most important benefit of autophagy. 

What is autophagy?
Autophagy is a condition where your body is recycling old and damaged proteins in the body. I’m not talking just about hair and muscle. I’m talking about those little enzyme protein machines that do the work of the body. They’re at the cellular level, and they make body tissue. 

Benefits of autophagy:

• It decreases the risk of disease
• It will help recycle protein as a survival mechanism 
• It can help reduce pathogens in the body 
• It protects neurons and heart cells
• It gets rid of advanced glycated end products and amyloid plaquing 

**The most important benefit of autophagy is anti-cancer. 

The difference between a normal cell and a cancer cell has to do with this one thing.

A normal cell has something called mitochondrial respiration. 

A cancer cell has damage to this respiratory mechanism. When you damage this system, the cell starts to activate an ancient pathway that’s capable of fermenting glucose without the use of oxygen. 

Cancer cells are hungry for glucose. Why would anyone want to consume a lot of sugar or glucose if they have cancer?

But why is there damage to the respiratory mechanism in the mitochondria? My theory is that it has something to do with the DNA that gets damaged. I believe it gets damaged because it’s simply not protected. Autophagy may have the ability to clean up this damage in the mitochondria.

Mitochondria so if you're going throughautophagy and you're cleaning up all the damage in your mitochondria youbasically bring your risk for cancer way down so there are several things thatcan trigger autophagy that go beyond just fasting number one regular exercise andthe key word is regular not like a one time thing you do periodic exercise it'sregular consistent exercise not only will it trigger autophagy but it'llincrease the capacity of autophagy so you're just gonna clean up more damagein the body so the research on exercise includes both resistent training andaerobic type exercise aerobic exercise really improves autophagy of the brain andI'm going to put all the references down .

Below so you can check them out numbertwo intermittent fasting this is the one that most people know about and you'dhave to fast for at least 18 hours to really see the benefits of autophagyand if you go up to 48 hours you're gonna see more and more benefits you'rebasically recycling all the little damaged proteins or cellular machineryinside the cells that basically are not helping you they're hurting you allright number three ketones so ketones can trigger autophagy they alsoprotect the neurons they feed the neurons they can actually stimulateautophagy in the brain clean out some of this amyloid plaquing that's involvedin dementia all right number four sleep .

This is when you recover autophagy occurswhen you're in recovery mode this is why stress blocks autophagy but sleep canenhance autophagy then we get hyperbaric oxygen therapy has the capacity ofstimulating autophagy cold and hot therapy because it triggers certaingenes that stimulate that mechanism okay number seven coffee I'm not talkingabout drinking pots of coffee because you're gonna get too much caffeine butit's polyphenols that can stimulate some autophagy and then wine which by the wayI'm not recommending but it does tend to stimulate at autophagy but it has othereffects that could be damaging to the liver alright number nine cruciferousvegetables .

Specifically the phytochemical calledsulforaphane can trigger autophagy green tea stimulates a certain phytonutrientthat can also increase autophagy extra-virgin olive oil has a phytochemical that has the ability to stimulate autophagy in human studies someof these other ones are in animal studies number twelve mushrooms shiitakeand oyster mushrooms stimulate this chemical which has a capacity toincrease autophagy so if you combine all these let's say for example you drink alot of wine at night okay you're gonna get drunk go to sleep you're gonna sleepa lot deeper initially anyway but of course you're gonna wake up with ahangover so you're gonna need more .

You may already know about autophagy for recycling damaged proteins. But, there is another cool thing about autophagy called xenophagy. Xenophagy targets pathogens. 

Your immune system uses this mechanism to clean up microbes that shouldn’t be there. Unfortunately, certain viruses have adapted to this. So, you may not handle all of your microbes this way, but it can help lessen the load. 

What is autophagy?
Autophagy is a condition where your body starts to eat up damaged proteins and clean up microbes that shouldn’t be there. It then recycles them into new amino acids and materials. You can trigger autophagy by doing fasting for at least 18 hours. 

A few benefits of autophagy:

• It’s good for anti-aging
• It’s good for your immune system
• It’s good to help clean up old damaged proteins that shouldn’t be in your body 

Here’s what you could do in addition to fasting if you’re dealing with some type of infection or some type of chronic systemic immune weakness.
