0:00 Introduction: Belly fat
0:30 Understanding belly fat
1:38 Three types of bellies: #1 Sagging belly
5:05 Three types of bellies: #2 Protruded belly
7:50 Three types of bellies: #3 Lower pooch

Three types of bellies:
1. Sagging belly
This is visceral fat, which is spill-off from the liver. It spills off around the organs and inside of the organs. This is a dangerous type of fat because it can obstruct the function of certain organs, and it can increase inflammation that can create other health issues.

This type of belly is usually caused by too much insulin triggered by consuming too many carbohydrates or too much stress (cortisol). To get rid of this type of belly, you need to focus on keeping your carbs low and keeping your stress low.

2. Protruded belly
This isn’t actually fat. The protruded belly could be caused by a liver problem that has existed for a long time. The liver is damaged and is leaking fluid from the liver into a sack in the abdomen. In this situation, it’s essential to change your lifestyle right away.

Vitamin E in the form of tocotrienols can be beneficial for cirrhosis. You may want to take 300mg 2-3 times a day. Consuming cruciferous vegetables and a moderate to low amount of protein may be beneficial. It’s also important to focus on supporting your microbiome. You could try taking TUDCA as well. Focus on your diet and avoid certain things.

3. Lower pooch
This is superficial fat. This is often caused by too much estrogen. This type of fat is very common and is not very dangerous.

Exercise can be beneficial in this situation in addition to cutting your carbs and doing intermittent fasting. It can take a long time to get rid of the last little bit of belly fat. But, you can do a few things to speed it up, like increase the amount of fasting you do and do things to lower your estrogen.

2:50 How to burn belly fat
15:55 Bonus tips

Today I’m going to cover the basics of how to burn belly fat fast on the keto diet.

5 important tips to help you lose belly fat:
1. Consume salad first
When it comes to leafy greens, you don’t have to count carbs. You should consume at least 7 cups of salad per day.

There are huge benefits of lowering your carbs, but there are also huge benefits of consuming nutrient-dense foods.

Consuming this amount of salad can help prevent things like keto cramps, keto fatigue, and keto flu. It can also help reduce insulin resistance and give you more energy.

2. Protein
Start by consuming an amount of protein that is about the size of your hand. If you’re bigger or younger, you could have more. If you’re older and have a slow metabolism, then have less.

If you have too much protein, it can slow down ketosis. But, if you don’t have enough, you could feel tired. The key is to not consume low-fat protein.

3. Fat
In the beginning, it’s important to increase the amount of fat at each meal. The initial goal of the keto diet is not to jump into weight loss. It’s to help you start intermittent fasting.

It’s very important to do intermittent fasting with Healthy keto. If you do keto without fasting, you won’t get into a deeper level of ketosis and fat-burning. The combination of Healthy keto and intermittent fasting is powerful for fast fat-burning.

4. Nutrients
When you’re doing keto and fasting, it’s important to include all of the nutrients you need to prevent nutritional deficiencies. You’ll need more B vitamins (nutritional yeast), electrolytes, and sea salt.

5. Don’t feel deprived
Your cognitive function, energy, and mood are going to improve. You’re also going to lose weight. But, if you miss certain pleasure foods, there are certain things you can have after your meal, like low-carb chocolate or keto desserts.

Bonus tips:
1. If something is working, don’t change anything. If it’s not working, it’s time to change something.
2. You don’t lose weight to get healthy. You have to get healthy to lose weight.

Belly fat is just the tip of the iceberg. Find out what’s going on behind the scenes and learn what you can do about it.

What’s happening on the inside of your body when you have belly fat? Let’s talk about it. For you to have a big belly, you first have to have a fatty liver.

The liver becomes fatty due to consuming too many carbs, which turn to fat in the liver and around the organs. Eventually, the fat from the liver will spill over into other organs. All of this comes from a high-carb diet as well as frequent eating.

In many cases, people don’t associate their belly fat with any other health problems. At least, initially. They may not even see a high blood sugar problem for a few decades. This is because insulin is taking care of the blood sugar levels. But, doctors don’t typically test insulin levels, so they won’t see that your insulin is too high and is leading to a blood sugar problem.

You probably won’t know you have a fatty liver. You’ll just see that you have a large belly. But, as the years go on, you can develop diabetes.

The deeper cause of insulin resistance is really a fatty liver. The liver can’t function right, and everything starts backing up. But, a high-carb diet is what’s really behind all of this.

Other symptoms of high blood sugar and high insulin:
• Frequent urination
• Fatigue
• Sleep apnea
• A weakened immune system
• Arthritis
• Cravings
• Metabolic syndrome (high blood pressure, heart disease, fatty liver diabetes type 2)

All of these things, plus the belly fat, are coming from the same things: a high carb diet, high blood glucose, and high insulin. But, the good news is that the Healthy Keto diet and intermittent fasting may help.

In this video, we’re going to talk about how belly fat destroys testosterone.

Symptoms of low testosterone:
• Low sex drive
• Erectile dysfunction
• Depression
• Poor concentration
• Fatigue
• Irritability
• Loss of muscle strength

Visceral fat is fat around the organs in the mid-section. It’s loaded with an enzyme called aromatase. The more fat you have, the more aromatase you’re going to have.

Aromatase converts testosterone and other androgens into estrogen. Estrogen lowers testosterone and can make you fat.

How to inhibit aromatase and increase testosterone:
1. Lose belly fat (get on the keto diet and do intermittent fasting)
2. Consume aromatase inhibitors, such as:
• White button mushrooms
• Cruciferous vegetables
• DIM (concentrated cruciferous vegetables)
• Stinging nettle root
• Licorice
• Grape seed extract

Today, let’s talk about ascites. Ascites is a condition where someone’s belly is protruded like a basketball. But it’s not fat. It’s mostly fluid. The liver is leaking certain fluid into a sack around the abdominal organs.

The most common cause of ascites is cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is a condition where the liver has scar tissue that’s overwhelming the function of the liver. Now, the liver can’t function properly and is leaking fluid into the gut.

Other potential causes of cirrhosis are:
• Cancer
• TB
• Pancreatitis
• Heart disease

Associated symptoms:
• Portal hypertension
• Edema in the lower legs
• Bruising
• Gynecomastia
• Vomiting blood
• Confusion and cognitive dysfunction (potential remedies for this include: lactulose, sauerkraut, veggies, a moderate amount of protein, l-glutamine)

If I had ascites, I would start:
• Intermittent fasting
• Taking milk thistle
• Taking vitamin E (tocotrienols)
• Taking selenium
• A low-carb diet

Eating Too Frequently (not fasting)

Study – Diabetes Care (2019)

Twenty-eight volunteers with diabetes (BMI 32.4 ± 5.2 kg/m2 and HbA1c 8.1 ± 1.1% [64.5 ± 11.9 mmol/mol]) were randomly assigned to 3Mdiet or 6Mdiet.

3Mdiet, but not 6Mdiet, led to a significant weight loss (-5.4 ± 0.9 kg) and decreased HbA1c (-12 mmol/mol [-1.2%]) after 12 weeks.

Not Enough Protein

Study – Obesity

A total of 27 overweight/obese men were randomized to groups that consumed an energy-restriction diet (750 kcal/day below daily energy need) as either higher protein (HP, 25% of energy as protein, n = 14) or normal protein (NP, 14% of energy as protein, n = 13) for 12 weeks

The 3-EO pattern led to greater evening and late-night fullness vs. 6-EO but only within the HP group

**In other words, 3 meals/day with high protein was found to be more satiating than 6 meals/day with normal protein**

Researchers conluded that “collectively, these data support the consumption of HP intake, but not greater eating frequency, for improved appetite control and satiety in overweight/obese men during energy-restriction-induced weight loss.”

Fasting Too Much

Fairly simple here – by fasting too much you’re inadvertently reducing calories

The study from the European Journal of Sports Science journal found that young men ate about 650 fewer calories per day when they limited their food intake to a 4-hour period

Not everyone is going to restrict themselves to a 4-hour eating window, but the point is that with a shorter eating window, the harder it is to eat at maintenance, let alone a surplus

And when your calories do drop too much, leptin levels decrease and your thyroid will slow

Incorrect Refeeds

Moving on to leptin, I think having refeeds as a reason is important as most people seem to have an incorrect view of how leptin works – people who have been dieting for an extended period of time think one cheat meal will completely fix a plateau

A study published in Metabolism found that overfeeding only boosts metabolism between 3 and 10% for no more than 24 hours.

Another study, this time from International Journal of Obesity, showed that temporarily upping calorie intake could re-up leptin production by nearly 30% for up to 24 hours

Additional

The MATADOR (minimizing adaptive thermogenesis and deactivating obesity rebound) study:

Insufficient Sleep

Public Library of Science: Medicine

In this study, subjects (1,024 ) who consistently slept less than five hours a night had significant differences in the hormones leptin and ghrelin as compared with people who slept an average of eight hours a night

More specifically, subjects suffering a lack of sleep had 16% less leptin and nearly 15% more ghrelin than those who were well rested did

Impaired Insulin Signaling

It’s also been found that a lack of sleep can affect weight due to impaired insulin signaling

A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine had 7 adults undergo four days of 4.5 hours of sleep vs 8.5 hours of sleep

Essentially, it can make fat cells 30% less able to deal with insulin

Lack of sleep also gives you the munchies as it increases levels of the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG)

In this video, Dr. Berg discussed the non-fat belly (Ascites), a condition where a person has a protruded stomach and it is not coming from fats but fluids. It is caused by a damaged liver that causes leakage of fluid and the accumulation of the protein fluid in the abdominal cavity. In this condition, there is a replacement of the normal healthy liver cells replaced with fibrous scar tissue that end up losing the function of the liver cells.

Here’s what you need to do:
1. Lower Carbohydrates
2. Stop all alcohol
3. Moderate protein / fat
4. Cruciferous vegetables – Fiber – Increase bile
5. Intermittent Fasting
6. Give it 3 years
